Length 18 1/2 (19, 19, 19 1/2)”/46.5 (48, 48, 49) cm

Please keep in mind that you should always begin with a gauge swatch and be sure to convert yardage for any substitute yarn.

 

MATERIALS
Caron International's Black Magic (50% acrylic, 50% wool; 1.76 oz/50 g, 59 yds/54 m ball):
#0008 Autumn Shadow, 5 (6, 7, 8) balls
One pair US size 10 (6mm); one circular size US 10 (6 mm), 36" long for Collar
Stitch markers
yarn needle
two buttons-3/4" diameter
sewing needle and thread to attach buttons

 

GAUGE
In Stockinette st or Seed st, 12 sts and 19 rows = 4"/10 cm 

 

STITCHES USED
Stockinette stitch (St st): Knit on RS, purl on WS;

Seed Stitch (even number of sts)
Row 1: * K1, p1; repeat from * across.
Row 2: * Knit the purl sts and purl the knit sts as they face you.
Repeat Row 2 for Seed st.

 

BACK
Cast on 46 (52, 58, 64) sts.
(RS) Begin Seed st; work even for 4 rows, end with a WS row.
(RS)
Change to St st; knit 1 row, inc 7 sts evenly across—53 (59, 65, 71) sts. Cont in St st, work even until piece measures 10" from beg, end with a WS row.
Shape Armholes: (RS)
Bind off 3 (4, 5, 6) sts at beg of next 2 rows—47 (51, 55, 59) sts remain.
(RS)
Dec 1 st each side every other row 4 (5, 5, 6) times—39 (41, 45, 47) sts remain. Work even until armhole measures 8 (8 1/2, 8 1/2, 9)” from beg of shaping, end with a WS row; place a marker (pm) each side of center 15 (17, 17, 19) sts for neck.
Shape Neck: (RS)
Work across to marker; join a second ball of yarn and bind off center sts; work to end—12 (12, 14, 14) sts remain each side. Working both sides at the same time, at each neck edge, dec 1 st every row 1 time—11 (11, 13, 13) sts remain for shoulder. Work even until armhole measures 8 1/2 (9, 9, 9 1/2)” from beg of shaping. Bind off all sts loosely.

 

LEFT FRONT
Cast on 30 (32, 36, 38) sts.
(RS) Begin Seed st; work even for 4 rows, end with a WS row.
(RS)
Change to St st; knit 1 row, inc 3 (4, 3, 4) sts evenly across—33 (36, 39, 42) sts. Cont in St st, work even until piece measures 6” from beg, end with a WS row.
Shape Neck: (RS)
Beg this row, at neck edge (end of RS rows), dec 1 st every other row 3 (4, 4, 5) times, then every 4 rows 12 times; and AT THE SAME TIME, when piece measures 10” from beg, end with a WS row.
Shape Armholes: (RS)
At armhole edge (beg of RS rows), bind off 3 (4, 5, 6) sts once, then dec 1 st every other row 4 (5, 5, 6) times. Work armhole even, while completing neck shaping—11 (11, 13, 13) sts remain for shoulder. Work even until armhole measures 8 1/2 (9, 9, 9 1/2)” from beg of shaping. Bind off all sts loosely.

 

RIGHT FRONT
Cast on 30 (32, 36, 38) sts.
(RS) Begin Seed st; work even for 4 rows, end with a WS row.
(RS)
Change to St st; knit 1 row, inc 3 (4, 3, 4) sts evenly across—33 (36, 39, 42) sts.
(WS)
Purl 1 row even.
Buttonholes:
(RS) At neck edge, k2, [k2tog, yo] for buttonhole; k4, make second buttonhole, knit to end. Cont in St st, work as for left Front, reversing shaping by working neck shaping at the beg of RS rows and armhole shaping at beg of WS rows.

 

COLLAR
Using circular needle, cast on 24 (28, 28, 32) sts.
(RS) Begin Seed st; work even for 1 row.
Shape Collar:
Cont in Seed st, cast on 6 sts at end of the next 20 rows—144 (148, 148, 152) sts. Work even for 2 rows. Bind off all sts loosely in pattern.

 

FINISHING
Sew shoulder seams.
Armhole Band:
With RS facing, beg at underarm, pick up and knit 48 (52, 52, 56) sts around armhole. Beg Seed st; work even for 4 rows. Bind off all sts loosely in pattern.
Sew side seams. Placing cast on edge at Back neck, sew Collar around neck shaping and along center Front edges, beg and end at lower edge; fold to RS. Overlap right Front over left Front; sew buttons opposite buttonholes. Weave in ends. Steam lightly, if desired.

Washing And Drying: Hand wash gently in cold water using a mild detergent. Gently
rinse well in cold water. Lay flat on a towel and roll in towel to remove excess water. DO NOT WRING, STRETCH OR HANG TO DRY.
