TECHNIQUE USED: Knit

 

 

SIZES
X-Small (Small, Medium, Large).
To fit: Baby size 12 – 18 months (Child's

2, 4, 6)

 

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Jacket – Chest: 22 (24, 26, 28)" buttoned. Length: 11 (13, 14, 15)"
Hat – Circumference: 13 (14, 15, 16)". Length: 7 1/2 (8, 8, 8 1/2)"

 

MATERIALS:

Caron International's Simply Soft Brites

(100% acrylic; 6 oz/172 g, 330 yds/304m): 2 (2, 2, 3) skeins #9607 Limelight. Needles: Size US 8
(5 mm) knitting needles, or size to obtain gauge Tapestry needle (tn); 4 buttons
Optional: Purchase cording and sew on in butterfly pattern - using photo as guide.

 

GAUGE
Using size US 8 (5 mm) needles, in Garter st: 18 sts and 34 rows = 4"/10 cm

 

STITCHES USED
Garter stitch (Garter st): Knit all stitches every row.

 

HELPFUL
1. Garter st looks the same on both sides. Place a marker (pm) at the beginning of first row to indicate that this is a RS row.
2. When placing markers for button holes, adjust placement slightly, if necessary, so that there are the same number of rows between each buttonhole.

 

BACK
CO 50 (54, 58, 64) sts. (RS) Begin Garter st; work even until piece measures 11 (13, 14, 15)" from the beginning. BO all sts loosely. Pm each
side of center 22 (22, 24, 26) sts for Back neck.

 

RIGHT FRONT
CO 20 (22, 24, 27) sts. (RS) Begin Garter st; work even until piece measures 9 (11, 12, 13)" from the beginning, end with a WS row.
Shape Neck: (RS) At neck edge, BO 3 (3, 4, 4) sts, knit to end. Work 1 row even.
(RS) BO 3 (3, 3, 4) sts, knit to end—14 (16, 17, 19) sts remain for shoulder. Work even until piece measures same as Back to shoulder. BO all sts. Place
markers for 4 buttons along center Front edge, first 1 (2, 2, 2 1/2)" from lower edge, last 1/2" below beginning of neck shaping, remaining 2 evenly
spaced between.

 

LEFT FRONT
CO 36 (38, 40, 43) sts. (RS) Begin Garter st; work even until piece measures same as right Front to first button marker, end with a WS row.
Make Buttonhole: (RS) Work across to last 3 sts, [YO, k2tog for buttonhole], k1. Work as for right Front, and AT THE SAME TIME, work remaining 3 buttonholes opposite markers.
Work even until piece measures 1/4" [2 rows] less than right Front to neck shaping, end with a RS row.
Shape Neck: (WS) At neck edge, BO 16 sts, knit to end—20 (22, 24, 27) sts remain. Work 1 row even.
(WS) BO 3 (3, 4, 4) sts, knit to end. Work 1 row even. (WS) BO 3 (3, 3, 4) sts, knit to end—14 (16, 17, 19) sts remain for shoulder. Work even until
piece measures same as right Front to shoulder. BO all sts.

 

PATCH POCKET
CO 16 (20, 20, 20) sts. (RS) Begin Garter st; work even until piece measures 3 1/2 (4, 4, 4)” from the beginning. BO all sts.

 

SLEEVES (make 2)
CO 30 (36, 36, 38) sts. (RS) Begin Garter st; work even for 16 rows, end with a WS row.
Shape Sleeve: Inc 1 st each side this row, then every 4 (4, 5, 6) rows 13 (15, 16, 16) times, working increased sts in Garter st—58 (68, 70, 72) sts. Work
even until Sleeve measures 9 (10, 12, 14)" from the beginning.
BO all sts.

 

FINISHING
Join shoulder seams. Pm 6 1/2 (7 1/2, 7 3/4, 8)" down from shoulder, Back and Front, for armhole.

 

COLLAR
With RS facing, beg at right Front neck edge, pick up and knit 7 (7, 8, 9) sts along BO sts of right Front neck, 32 (32, 34, 36) sts up Right Front, across Back neck and down left Front to BO sts, pick up and knit 7 (7, 8, 9) sts along BO sts of left Front neck as for right Front; DO NOT pick up sts on initial 16 BO sts—46 (46, 50, 54) sts. (WS) Begin Garter st; work even for 16 rows. BO all sts.
Optional: Sew on cording in butterfly pattern [see photo].
Sew Pocket centered on left Front, lower edge aligned with first buttonhole. Sew sleeves between markers, centering at shoulder seams. Sew Sleeve
and side seams. Sew buttons opposite buttonholes. Weave in ends. Turn down collar; turn up cuffs as desired [see photo].

 

HAT
CO 60 (64, 68, 72) sts. (RS) Begin Garter st; work even until piece measures 7 1/2 (8, 8, 8 1/2)" from the beginning. BO all sts.

 

FINISHING
Sew center Back seam. Fold hat flat and mark side points; fold hat and mark center Back and Front [see diagram]. Placing marked points
together, sew top seam.
Optional: Sew on cording in butterfly pattern (see photo).

Machine wash and dry Instructions:
Machine wash: warm water, gentle cycle or in net bag. Machine dry: low heat.
