MATERIALS
Caron International’s Charming (100% Nylon; 1.75 oz/50 g, 60 yds/55 m): 2 (3, 4) skeins #0008 Plum Loco
Crochet hook US size I/9 (5.5 mm), or size to obtain gauge
Tapestry needle (tn); stitch marker (optional)

 

GAUGE
In double crochet: 9 sts and 4.5 rows = 4"/10cm

Slip stitch (sl st)

 

HELPFUL INFORMATION
The texture of the yarn may make it difficult to see the turning ch; it may be helpful to place a marker in turning ch at beg of each row to make it easier to find.

 

PONCHO
Beginning at neck edge, ch 30 (38, 38).
Row 1: Dc in 3rd ch from hook (counts as 2 dc), dc in next 5 (7, 7) ch, *(dc, ch 1, dc) in next ch, dc in next 6 (8, 8) ch; repeat from * 2 times, end dc in turning ch—32 (40, 40) dc/3 ch-1 spaces, turn.
Row 2: Ch 2 (counts as dc), dc in next 7 (9, 9) dc, * (dc, ch 1, dc) in ch-1 sp, dc in next 7 (9, 9) dc; repeat from * across, end last rep dc in next 7 (9, 9) dc, dc in turning ch— 36 (44, 44) dc.
Rows 1 and 2 form the neck slit; remainder of piece is worked in-the-round.
Being careful not to twist piece, join with a sl st to beg ch-2 to form a ring.
Round 3: Ch 3 (counts as dc, ch 1), dc in same space as join and in next 8 (10, 10) dc, * (dc, ch 1, dc) in ch-1 space, dc in next 8 (10, 10) dc; repeat from * across, end last repeat dc in next 8 (10, 10) dc, join with a sl st to 2nd ch of beg ch-3—10 (12, 12) dc between each ch-1 space.
Round 4: Ch 3 (counts as dc, ch 1), dc in ch-1 sp, dc in next 9 (11, 11) dc, * (dc, ch 1, dc) in ch-1 space, dc in next 9 (11, 11) dc; repeat from * around, join with a sl st to 2nd ch of beg ch-3.
Rounds 5 – 10 (12, 14):  Repeat Round 4, increasing 1 st between each ch-space on every round—17 (21, 23) dc between ch-1 spaces.
Ruffle: Work 3 dc in each st around.
Fasten off.
Collar: With WS facing, beginning at left Front neck edge, sc in each chain across—28 (36, 36) sc, turn.
Rows 1 – 4: Ch 2, dc in each st across, turn.
Fasten off.

 

FINISHING
Weave in ends.
Ties (make 2): Ch 20. Fasten off.
