GAUGE
In Stockinette stitch, using larger needles, 13 sts and 20 rows = 4"/10 cm
Note: Gauge is not crucial for this project; fabric is very flexible.
SPECIAL TERMS
K1-f/b: Knit into the front loop, then the back loop of the next st (1 st increased).
Sc2tog: [Insert hook into next st and draw up a loop] twice, yo hook and pull through all 3 loops on hook (1 st decreased).
STITCHES USED
Stockinette stitch (St st): Knit every round.
Chain (ch)
Single crochet (sc)
NOTE
Ponchini is worked in-the-round, from the neck down in St st. Fringe is applied to Lower edge.
HELPFUL
Place markers every 20 (24) sts around, to mark increase points.
PONCHINI
Using smaller needle, CO 100 (120) sts; join, being careful not to twist sts, pm for beg of round and every 20 (24) sts around – 5 sections.
Begin St st; work even for 2 rnds.
Inc Rnd: * Knit to marker, slip marker (sm), k1-f/b; rep from * around—105 (125) sts.
Repeat last 3 rnds, increasing 5 sts every third rnd, until piece meas 2" from beg, end with Inc Rnd.
Change to larger needles; knit 1 rnd even.
Increase Rnd: Work as established.
Cont in St st, inc 5 sts EOR, until there are 42 (46) sts between markers—210 (230) sts total.
BO all sts loosely.
FINISHING
Using tn, weave in all ends.
Neck Trim: Using crochet hook, join yarn with a slip st to any st of neck edge; ch 1, work 1 row of sc evenly around neck edge, dec 10 (15) sts by sc2tog evenly around, end join with a slip st to first sc. Fasten off.
Fringe
Cut strands 18" long. Holding 2 strands together, fold fringe in half. Using crochet hook, * insert hook from WS to RS into any st at lower edge, pull through a loop [fold of strands], insert ends into loop and pull tight against edge; repeat from *, working into every other stitch around entire lower edge.
