MATERIALS

Caron International's Simply Soft Quick (100% acrylic; 3 oz/85 g, 50 yds/46 m):
#0007 Autumn Red (MC), 6 (7, 8) skeins

Caron International's Fling (71% acrylic, 29% polyester; 1.76 oz/50 g, 37 yds/34 m): 
#0003 Paprika (CC), 4 skeins (use double throughout)
One pair US size 10.5 (6.5 mm), or size to obtain gauge
Tapestry needle (tn)
Sewing needle and thread

 

GAUGE
In Stitch pattern, 11 sts and 17 rows = 4"/10 cm using MC
In Garter st, 7 1/2 sts and 8 rows = 4"/10 cm using 2 strands of CC held together

 

STITCHES USED
Garter stitch (Garter st): Knit every row.
Stitch Pattern (multiple of 2 sts; 4-row repeat)
Row 1 (RS): * K1, p1; repeat from * across/around, [end k1 if an odd number of sts].
Row 2: Knit the knit sts and purl the purl sts as they face you.
Row 3: Knit.
Row 4: Knit.
Repeat Rows 1 – 4 for St patt.

 

NOTE:  Sleeve cuff is larger than the beginning of the body of the sleeve in order to equalize the firmness of CC fabric and the stretchiness of the MC fabric.

 

BACK
Using two strands of CC held together, CO 32 (34, 36) sts. 
(RS) Beg Garter st; work even until piece measures 3" from beg, end WS row. 
(RS) Change to MC; knit 1 row (Row 3 of St patt), inc 10 (11, 12) sts evenly across row—42 (45, 48) sts.
(WS) Knit across, (Row 4 of St patt).
(RS) Beg Row 1 of St patt, work even until piece measures 12 (12 1/2, 13)" from beg, end with WS row. 
Shape Shoulders and Neck: (RS) BO 5 sts at beg of next 8 rows—2 (5, 8) sts remain. 
BO remaining sts.

 

LEFT FRONT
Using two strands CC held together, CO 12 (12, 13) sts. 
(RS) Beg Garter st; work even until piece measures 3" from beg, end with WS row. 
(RS) Change to MC; knit 1 row (Row 3 of St patt), inc 5 (6, 7) sts evenly across row—17 (18, 20) sts. 
(WS) Knit across, (Row 4 of St patt).
(RS) Beg Row 1 of St patt, work even until piece measures 8 1/2 (9, 9 1/2)" from beg, end with RS row. 
Shape Neck: (WS) Cont in patt est, at neck edge, dec 1 st  this row, then every other row 6 (6, 7) times; and AT THE SAME TIME, when piece measures same as Back to shoulder shaping, end with a WS row.
Shape Shoulder: (RS) BO 5 sts every other row twice.
BO remaining sts. 

 

RIGHT FRONT
Work as for Left Front, reversing shaping.

 

SLEEVES (make 2)
Using two strands CC held together, CO 20 (20, 22) sts. 
(RS) Beg Garter st; work even until piece measures 3" from beg, end WS row. 
(RS) Change to MC and St patt, beg Row 3; work even for 2 rows (Rows 3 and 4 of St patt).
Shape Sleeve: (RS) Cont in St patt, inc 1 st each side this row, then every 4 rows 15 (16, 16) times, working inc sts in St patt as they become est—52 (54, 56) sts. 
Work even until piece measures 21 (21 1/2, 22)" from the beg.
BO all sts loosely.

 

FRONT EDGING AND COLLAR
Using two strands CC held together, CO 6 sts.
(RS) Beg Garter st; work even until piece measures 8 1/2 (9, 9 1/2)" from beg, end WS row. 
Shape Collar: Increase Row: (RS) Inc 1 st each side this row—8 sts. 
(WS) Work even for 3 rows, end with WS row.
(RS) Repeat Increase Row—10 sts.  
Cont as est, work even until piece measures 23 (24, 25)" from beg, end WS row.
Decrease Row: (RS) Dec 1 st each side this row—8 sts. 
(WS) Work even for 3 rows, end with WS row.
(RS) Repeat Decrease Row—6 sts.  
Cont as est, work even until piece measures 32 1/2 (34, 35 1/2)" from beg.
BO all sts loosely.

 

FINISHING
Sew shoulder seams. Set in sleeves; sew sleeve and side seams.
Edging/Collar: Pin piece to right Front, neck, and left Front edges; sew in place. 
Note: Use MC to sew the pieces worked in MC; use sewing needle and matching thread to sew CC sections.
Using tn, weave in all ends.

Repeat Row 2 for 1 x 1 rib.

 

SCARF
CO 6 sts.
Beg 1 x 1 rib; work even until piece measures 70" from beg, or desired length.
BO all sts in rib.

FINISHING
