One size US I-9 (5.5 mm) crochet hook, or size to obtain gauge

Yarn needle

 

GAUGE

In double crochet, 12 sts and 8 rows = 4"/10cm.

STITCHES USED

Chain (ch), double crochet (dc), single crochet (sc), slip stitch (sl st)

 

SPECIAL STITCHES

dc2tog: Double crochet 2 together—[Yarn over, insert hook in next st and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops] twice, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook.

FPdc: Front-post double crochet—Yarn over, insert hook from front to back and then to front again around post of stitch, yarn over and draw up loop, [yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook] 2 times. Note: Do not work into the stitch "behind" the FPdc, skip this stitch.

rev sc (reverse single crochet) Work single crochet in opposite direction by inserting hook in next stitch (to the right if right-handed, and to the left if left-handed), yarn over and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through both loops on hook.

sc2tog: Single crochet 2 together—Insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and draw up a loop (2 loops on hook), insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook.

Ribbing

Ch 8.

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each remaining ch across, turn—7 sc.

Row 2: Ch 1, working in back loops only, sc in each sc across, turn.

Rep last row until ribbing measures 10 (11, 12, 13)"/25.5 (28, 30.5, 33) cm from beginning. Do not turn at end of last row. Do not fasten off.

Body

Row 1: Rotate ribbing, ch 1, work 39 (43, 47, 51) sc evenly spaced across long edge of ribbing, turn.

Row 2 (RS): Ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout), dc in next 2 sc, *FPdc around next sc, dc in next 3 sc; repeat from * across, turn.

Row 3: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.

Row 4: Ch 3, dc in next 2 sc, *FPdc around next FPdc 2 rows below, dc in next 3 sc; repeat from * across, turn.

Repeat last 2 rows until back measures 10 1/2 (11 1/2, 12 1/2, 13)"/26.5 (29, 32, 33) cm from beginning, end with a Row 4.

Shape Armholes

Row 1: Ch 1, sc in each st across to last 4 sts, turn; leave last 4 sts unworked—35 (39, 43, 47) sts.

Row 2: Ch 3, dc in next 2 sc, *FPdc around next FPdc 2 rows below, dc in next 3 sc; repeat from * across to last 4 sts, turn; leave last 4 sts unworked—31 (35, 39, 43) sts.

Row 3: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.

Row 4: Ch 3, dc in next 2 sc, *FPdc around next FPdc 2 rows below, dc in next 3 sc; repeat from * across, turn.

Repeat last 2 rows until armhole measures 5 1/2 (6, 6 1/2, 7)"/14 (15, 16.5, 18) cm. Fasten off.

 

FRONT

Work same as back until armhole measures 3 1/2 (4, 4 1/2, 5)"/9 (10, 11.5, 12.5) cm, end with a Row 4.

Shape Neck and First Shoulder

Row 1: Ch 1, sc in first 8 (10, 12, 14) sts, turn; leave remaining sts unworked (for neck and 2nd shoulder)—8 (10, 12, 14) sts.
Row 2: Ch 2 (does not count as a st), dc2tog, dc in each sc to next FPdc (2 rows below), *FPdc around next FPdc 2 rows below, dc in each sc to next FPdc (2 rows below); repeat from * across, turn—7 (9, 11, 13) sts.

Row 3: Ch 1, sc in each st across to last 2 sts, sc2tog, turn—6 (8, 10, 12) sts.

Row 4: Ch 3, dc in each sc to next FPdc, *FPdc around next FPdc 2 rows below, dc in each sc to next FPdc; repeat from * across, turn.

Fasten off.

Shape Neck and Second Shoulder

Sk next 15 unworked sts following first shoulder, join yarn with sl st in next st.

Row 1: Ch 1, sc in same st as join, sc in each remaining st across, turn—8 (10, 12, 14) sts.

Row 2: Ch 3, dc in each sc to next FPdc, *FPdc around next FPdc 2 rows below, dc in each sc to next FPdc; repeat from * across to last 2 sts, dc2tog, turn—7 (9, 11, 13) sts.

SLEEVE (make 2)

Ribbing

Work same as back ribbing, until piece measures 6 (6, 6 1/2, 7)"/15 (15, 16.5, 18)cm from beginning.

Row 1: Rotate ribbing, ch 1, work 23 (23, 27, 27) sc evenly spaced across long edge of ribbing, turn.

Row 2 (RS): Ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout), dc in next 2 sc, *FPdc around next sc, dc in next 3 sc; repeat from * across, turn.

Row 3: Ch 1, 2 sc in first st, sc in each st across to last st, 2 sc in last st, turn—25 (25, 29, 29) sts.

Row 4: Ch 3, dc in each sc to next FPdc (2 rows below), *FPdc around next FPdc 2 rows below, dc in each sc to next FPdc (2 rows below); repeat from * across, turn.

Repeat last 2 rows 4 (6, 6, 7) more times—33 (37, 41, 43) sts.

Next Row: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.

Next Row: Ch 3, dc in each sc to next FPdc (2 rows below), *FPdc around next FPdc 2 rows below, dc in each sc to next FPdc (2 rows below); repeat from * across, turn.

Repeat last 2 rows until sleeve measures 13 1/2 (14 1/2, 16 1/2, 17 1/2)"/34.5 (37, 42, 44.5)cm from beginning. Fasten off.

 

FINISHING

Sew shoulder seams.

Neckband

Row 1: With RS facing, join yarn with sl st in shoulder seam, ch 1, sc evenly spaced around neck edge; join with sl st in first sc.

Row 2: Ch 1, rev sc in each sc around. Fasten off.
