TECHNIQUE USED: Crochet

 

 

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

Each heart measures approximately 2"/5cm tall.

 

MATERIALS: 
Caron International One Pound
(100% acrylic; 16 oz/454 g, 812 yds/742 m skein):  

choose from small amounts of any combination of the following colors:

Shown in: #513 Soft Pink, #562 Claret, #501 Bright White, #517 Rose.

One size US H-8 (5 mm) crochet hook, or size to obtain gauge.

Yarn needle

 

GAUGE

Gauge is not critical for this project.

 

STITCHES USED

Chain (ch), double crochet (dc), single crochet (sc), sl stitch (sl st)

 

NOTES

1. If desired, change colors before working Rounds 6 and 7.

2. To change color, work last st of old color to last yarn over; yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook. Fasten off old color. Alternately, fasten off old color and join new color with a sl st in the first st to begin next round.

 

HEART

Ch 3.

Row 1: Sc in second ch from hook and in next ch, turn—2 sc.

Row 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in first sc, sc in next sc, turn—3 sc.

Row 3: Ch 1, 2 sc in first sc, sc in next sc, 2 sc in last sc, turn—5 sc.

Row 4: Ch 1, 2 sc in first sc, sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in last sc, turn—7 sc.

Row 5: Sk first sc, 5 dc in next sc (shell made), sk next sc, sl st in next sc, sk next sc, 5 dc in next sc, sk last sc, sl st in beginning ch, turn—2 shells.

Work now proceeds in rounds.

Round 6: Ch 2 (does not count as a st), 2 dc in next 3 dc, sc in next dc, sl st in next dc, sk next sl st, sl st in next dc, sc in next dc, 2 dc in next 3 dc; working in ends of rows, work 6 dc evenly spaced along side of heart; working along opposite side of foundation ch, 3 dc in space between 2 sc at base of heart; working in ends of rows,  work 6 dc evenly spaced up side of heart; join with sl st in top of beginning ch—27 dc, 2 sc, and 2 sl sts.

Round 7: Ch 2, 2 dc in next 6 dc, sc in next sc, sl st between next 2 sl sts, sc in next sc, 2 dc in next 6 dc, dc in next 7 dc, 3 dc in next dc (point), dc in next 7 dc; join with sl st in top of beginning ch—41 dc, 2 sc, and 1 sl st.  Fasten off.

 

EDGINGS (optional)

Work either of the following edgings, as desired.

Edging 1

Join yarn with sl st in sl st at center of top of heart.

Round 1: Ch 4, sk next st, *sl st in next st, ch 4, sk next st; repeat from * around; join with sl st in first sl st.

Hanging Loop (optional): Ch 14, sl st in first ch of ch-14. Fasten off.

Edging 2

Join yarn with sl st in sl st at center of top of heart.

Round 1: Sk next st, 5 dc in next st, sk next st, *sl st in next st, sk next st, 5 dc in next st, sk next st; repeat from * around; join with sl st in first sl st.

Hanging Loop (optional): Ch 14, sl st in first ch of ch-14. Fasten off.

Fasten off.

Edging 3

Weave a piece of contrasting yarn between the sts of the last round. Weave in ends or tie ends into a bow.

 

FINISHING
