Caron International's One Pound (100% Acrylic; 16oz/454g, 812yds/742m):

#0517 Rose, 1 skein


Size U.S. 10 (6mm), 16”/40.5cm long circular needle or size to obtain gauge

Size U.S. 9 (5.5mm), 16”/40.5cm long circular needle for ribbing

Set of U.S. 10 (6mm) double-pointed needles (dpns)
Stitch marker
Yarn needle
Pompom maker, 2-4"/5-10cm

 

 GAUGE
In St st using larger circular needle, 14 sts and 20 rnds = 4"/10cm

 

STITCHES USED
Stockinette stitch (worked in-the-rnd):
Knit ever rnd.

Garter stitch (worked in-the-round):
Purl 1 rnd, knit 1 rnd.

Mock Cable Rib (multiple of 5 sts):
Rnds 1-3: *P1, k1, p1, k2; rep from * around.
Rnd 4: *P1, k1, p1, k2tog leaving sts on left hand needle, k into first st again, then slide both
sts off needle.
Rep Rnds 1-4 for Mock Cable Rib pat.

NOTES
When working Garter st in-the-rnd, beg with purl rnd, then knit next rnd.
The last 5 decrease rnds of hat will have less St st or Garter st rnds worked between them than the previous decrease rnds.

 

HAT SCARF
With smaller circular needle, CO 70 sts. Place marker at beg of rnd and join being careful not to twist sts. Beg with Rnd 3 of Mock Cable Rib, work 10 rnds, inc 4 sts on last rnd—74 sts.
Change to larger circular needle.
Work 19 rows in St. st.

Shaping
Work (18 rnds of Garter st and 20 rnds St st) 4 times, then work in St st for 66 rnds; at the same time, working dec rnds as foll always maintaining pat sequence and changing to dpns when necessary:
Rnd 1: *Work 2 sts tog, work 17 sts; rep from *; ending with work 2 sts tog, work 15 sts—70 sts.
Rnd 18: *Work 2 sts tog, work 16 sts; rep from *, ending with work 2 sts tog, work 14 sts—66 sts.
Rnd 35: *Work 2 sts tog, work 15 sts; rep from *, ending with work 2 sts tog, work 13 sts—62 sts.
Rnd 52: *Work 2 sts tog, work 14 sts; rep from *, ending with work 2 sts tog, work 12 sts—58 sts.
Rnd 69: *Work 2 sts tog, work 13 sts; rep from *, ending with work 2 sts tog, work 11 sts—54 sts.

End off, leaving a 6”/15cm tail. Thread yarn needle and draw tail through rem sts. Pull tightly and secure to WS.

 

FINISHING
Make pompom and attach to the end of scarf.
Weave in all ends.
