MATERIALS

Caron International's Simply Soft Shadows

(100% acrylic; 3 oz/85g, approx 150 yds/137m ball):), #0008 Opal Twist, 5 (7, 8) balls
Crochet hooks, one each size US G-6, H-8, I-9, and J-10 (4, 5, 5.5, and 6 mm), or size to obtain
gauge
Yarn needle

 

GAUGE
In Peacock stitch
Using size US G-6 (4 mm) hook, 20 sts = 5"/12.7 cm and 2 rows = 2 1/2"/6.4 cm
Using size US H/8 (5 mm) hook, 30 sts = 8"/20 cm and 2 rows = 3"/7.6 cm
Using size US I-9 (5.5 mm) hook, 20 sts = 5 1/2"/14 cm and 2 rows = 5"/12.7 cm

STITCHES USED
Chain (ch), Single crochet (sc), Treble crochet (tr)

Peacock Stitch (multiple of 10 sts)
Round 1: Ch 1, sc in next st, *skip 4 sts, work 9 tr in next st, skip 4 sts, sc in next st; repeat from * around, join with a slip st to first st.
Round 2: Ch 4 (counts as tr), tr in first sc, *ch 3, skip 4 tr, sc in next tr (the center tr of 9), ch 3, skip 4 tr, work 2 tr in next sc; repeat from *
around, end 2 tr in last sc; join with a slip st in top of ch-4.
Round 3: Ch 1, sc in space between first 2-tr, * skip ch-3, work 9 tr in next sc, skip ch-3, sc in space between 2-tr; repeat from * around, end sc in space between last tr, join with a slip st in first st. Repeat Rows 2 and 3 for Peacock st.

NOTES
1. Skirt is worked from the waist down; waist is worked in rows, remainder of skirt is worked in-the-round.
2. Shaping is accomplished by changing hook size for each section (see Schematic).
3. Waist is adjusted by means of a drawstring.

 

WAISTBAND
Using smallest hook (G-6), chain 122 (142, 162).
Row 1: Beginning in third ch from hook, dc in third ch and in each ch across; turn—120 (140, 160) dc.
Row 2: Ch 3, dc in each dc across; turn.
Row 3: (Increase Row) Ch 3, dc in next 5 (6, 7) sts, work 2 dc in next st (1 st increased); repeat from * across; join with a slip st in first st— 140 (160, 180) dc.

Begin Peacock st; work Rows 1 – 3 once, then work 2-row repeat (Rows 2 and 3) three times.
Change to next larger hook (H-8); work 2-row repeat 4 times.
Change to next larger hook (I-9); work 2-row repeat 4 times.
Change to largest hook (J-10); work 2-row repeat 3 times.
Note: Skirt will be 25" at this point; for a longer length, continue to work 2-row repeat to desired length.

FINISHING
Sew waist band seam.
Drawstring: using size H-8 hook, chain 200 (210, 220). Slip st in each chain across.
Beginning at center Front, weave drawstring over 2 dc, under 2 dc around; tie a knot in each end. Gather waist to desired size and tie drawstring.
Using tn, weave in all ends.

 

CARE INSTRUCTIONS
Machine Wash: warm water, gentle cycle. Machine Dry: low heat, delicate cycle.
