Caron Simply Soft Solids (100% acrylic, 6oz/170g, 315yd/288m):
#9710 Pagoda, 3 (4, 5, 5, 6, 6) skeins



Size US H-8 (5 mm) crochet hook or size to obtain gauge


ADDITIONAL MATERIALS
2 stitch markers
Yarn needle

 

GAUGE
3 repeats = 4.75”/12cm, 8 rows = 4”/10cm

STITCHES USED
sc: single crochet
ch: chain
dc: double crochet

Little Crowns (multiple of 6, plus 3 for turning chain)
Set up row: Dc in 6th ch from hook, (ch 1, dc) 4 times in same ch, *skip 5 ch, [(dc, ch 1) 4 times, dc] all in next ch, repeat from * to last 3 ch, skip 2 ch, dc in last ch.
Row 1: Ch 1, sc in dc, *(sc in ch-1 sp, ch 3) 3 times, sc in ch-1 sp; repeat from *, sc in top of turning ch, turn.
Row 2: Ch 3, *[(dc, ch 1) 4 times, dc] all in 2nd ch of the ch-3 sp; repeat from * across, dc in sc, turn.
Repeat Rows 1 & 2 for Little Crowns.

 

NOTES
Vest is worked from the top down. After working upper back and two upper fronts, pieces are worked in one piece. Increases are made to form the swing shaping.

 

UPPER BACK
Ch 51 (63, 69, 69, 69, 75). Beginning with set-up row, work in Little Crowns pattern until back measures 7 (7.5, 8, 8.5, 9, 9.5)”/18 (19, 20, 21.5, 23, 24)cm. Fasten off. Cut yarn, set aside.

 

UPPER FRONTS (make 2 the same)
Ch 21 (21, 21, 21, 27, 27). Beginning with set-up row, work in Little Crowns pattern until fronts measure same as back. Cut yarn after first front; set aside.
Work second front the same but do not cut yarn after second front.

Join Upper Fronts and Back
Work in pattern across second front, ch 29 (29, 29, 41, 53, 65) for underarm, work in pattern across back, ch 29 (29, 29, 41, 53, 65) for underarm, work in pattern across first front—total of 24 (26, 27, 31, 37, 42) repeats. Work in pattern across all sts until body measures 6”/15cm from underarm, ending with Row 1. Note: Each underarm has 5 (5, 5, 7, 9, 11) repeats. Place marker in repeat directly centered under armhole.

Begin Flare Shaping
Row 2: Work in pattern to marked repeat, inc as follows: [(dc, ch 1) 6 times, dc] all in second ch-3 sp, continue across to second underarm and work inc repeat, continue across row in pattern.
Next row: Work in pattern to marked repeat, inc as follows: *(sc in ch-1 sp, ch 3) 5 times, sc in ch-1 sp, continue across to second underarm and work inc repeat, continue across row in pattern.
Next row: Work in pattern to marked repeat, inc as follows: [(dc, ch 1) 4 times, dc] all in second ch-3 sp, [(dc, ch 1) 4 times, dc] all in 4th ch-3 sp of same repeat, continue across to second underarm and work inc repeat, continue across row in pattern.
Note: There are now 2 complete pattern repeats where there was one.
Work pattern Row 1 with no changes. Place a marker in both of these repeats for future repeat.
Work even in pattern for 8 rows. Work incs in the two marked repeats. Place marker in the two center repeats for future repeat.
Work even in pattern for 8 rows. Work incs in the two marked repeats. Work in pattern until front edge of vest measures 21 (22, 23, 24, 25, 26)”/53.5 (56, 58.5, 61, 63.5, 66)cm, ending after Row 2. Fasten off.

 

FINISHING
