Caron International's Simply Soft (100% Acrylic; 6oz/170g, 315yds/288m):

#9508 Charcoal Heather, 3 (3, 4, 4, 5, 5) skeins


NEEDLES


Size US H-8 (5 mm) crochet hook or size to obtain gauge


ADDITIONAL MATERIALS
Yarn needle

 

GAUGE
4 repeats = 4”/10 cm; 6 rows = 4”/10 cm

 

STITCHES USED
ch = chain
dc = double crochet
tr = treble crochet
dtr = double treble crochet
trdcdc (treble, double crochet, double crochet group): Work tr in next st, work 2 dc in base of tr leg

Open Triangles (repeat of 4 plus 1 for turning ch)
Set up row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, *ch 5, skip 3 ch, sc in next ch; repeat from * across, turn.
Row 1 (RS): Ch 5, *trdcdc in ch-5 sp, ch 1; repeat from * across, end trdcdc in ch-5 sp, dtr in sc, turn.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in dtr, *ch 5, sc in ch-1 sp; repeat from * across, end ch 5, sc in top of turning ch, turn.
Repeat Rows 1 & 2 for Open Triangles.

NOTES
Vest is worked in three pieces and sewn together

 

BACK
Ch 74 (82, 90, 98, 114, 130). Work in Open Triangles until back measures 17 (18, 19, 20, 21, 22)”/43 (45.5, 48.5, 51, 53.5, 56)cm.

 

Sleeves
At end of next 2 rows, ch 29 (29, 33, 33, 37, 37) for each sleeve. Work even in pattern until sleeve measures 8 (8, 9, 9, 10, 11)”/20.5 (20.5, 23, 23, 25.5, 28)cm. Fasten off.

 

LEFT FRONT
Ch 38 (42, 46, 50, 58, 66). Work in Open Triangles until left front measures 14 (15, 16, 17, 18, 19)”/35.5 (38, 40.5, 43, 45.5, 48.5)cm.

Shape neck & sleeve
Next row (RS): Work in pattern to last repeat, tr in last ch-5 sp, turn.
Next row: Ch 1, sc in tr, *ch 5, sc in ch-1 sp; repeat from * across, turn.
Work 4 rows even in pattern.
Repeat these 6 rows until 4 decs have been worked, AT THE SAME TIME; shape sleeve when front measures same as back to underarm working ch 29 (29, 33, 33, 37, 37) at side edge for sleeve. Work even in pattern until sleeve measures 8 (8, 9, 9, 10, 11)”/20.5 (20.5, 23, 23, 25.5, 28)cm. Fasten off.

 

RIGHT FRONT
Ch 38 (42, 46, 50, 58, 66). Work in Open Triangles until right front measures 14 (15, 16, 17, 18, 19)”/35.5 (38, 40.5, 43, 45.5, 48.5)cm.
