Size US 8 (5mm) knitting needle or size to obtain gauge

Yarn needle
2 stitch markers

 

GAUGE

In Stockinette stitch, 18 sts and 24 rows = 4"/10 cm.

 

NOTES

Scarves begin and end with 4 rows garter stitch and have 4 garter stitches on each edge. Use stitch markers to separate edges from center pattern stitch panel.

 

SPECIAL ABBREVIATIONS

2/2RC: slip 2 to cn, hold to back, k2, k2 from cn
2/2LC: slip 2 to cn, hold to front, k2, k2 from cn
1/1RC: slip 1 to cn, hold to back, k1, k1 from cn
1/1LC: slip 1 to cn, hold to front, k1, k1 from cn
k2tog: knit 2 together
p2tog: purl 2 together
ssk: Slip next 2 sts knitwise, one at a time, to right-hand needle. Insert tip of left-hand needle into fronts of these sts, knit them together.

Fractured Lattice (multiple of 8)
Row 1 (RS): (1/1LC, k2, 1/1LC, 1/1RC) across.
Row 2 & all WS rows: Purl across.
Row 3: (1/1LC, k2, 1/1RC, k2) across.
Row 5: (1/1RC, k2, 1/1LC, 1/1RC) across.
Row 7: (1/1LC, k2, 1/1RC, k2) across.
Repeat Rows 1-8 for pattern.

 

SCARF
For all scarves: cast on 32 sts.
Knit 4 rows for garter st edging.
Keeping 4 sts at beginning and end of each row in garter st, work center 24 sts in desired  pattern until scarf measures .5” (1.25cm) less than desired length.
Knit 4 rows for garter st edging.
Bind off.

 

FINISHING
