One size US J-10 (6mm) crochet hook, or size to obtain gauge.

SPECIAL TERM

popcorn: 4 dc in indicated stitch, drop loop from hook, insert hook from front to back in first of the 4 dc just made, draw dropped loop through stitch, ch 1 (to close popcorn).

 

SQUARE (make 20 – 2 with A and 3 each with B, C, D, E, F, and G)

Ch 5; join with sl st in first ch to form a ring.

Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout), work 15 more dc in ring; join with sl st in top of beginning ch—16 dc.

Round 2: Ch 4 (counts as first dc, ch 1), popcorn in next dc, ch 1, *dc in next dc, ch 1, popcorn in next dc, ch 1; repeat from * around; join with sl st in 3rd ch of beginning ch—8 dc and 8 popcorn.

Strip #3: G, F, D, B, E

Strip #4: D, C, B, E, A

Edging

With RS facing, join E with sl st in any corner of blanket.

Round 1: Ch 3, (popcorn, ch 2, popcorn) in same corner, dc in next dc (of corner shell), popcorn in next dc, ch 1, dc in next dc, popcorn in next ch-2 sp, ch 1, sk next popcorn, [dc in next dc, popcorn in next dc, ch 1] twice, dc in next 2 dc, [popcorn in next dc, ch 1, dc in next dc] twice, sk next popcorn, popcorn in next ch-2 sp, ch 1, dc in next dc, popcorn in next dc, ch 1, dc in next dc, *(popcorn, ch 1, dc) in corner ch-sp, (dc, popcorn) in corner ch-sp of next square, ch 1, dc in next dc, popcorn in next dc, ch 1, dc in next dc, popcorn in next ch-2 sp, ch 1, sk next popcorn, [dc in next dc, popcorn in next dc, ch 1] twice, dc in next 2 dc, [popcorn in next dc, ch 1, dc in next dc] twice, sk next popcorn, popcorn in next ch-2 sp, ch 1, dc in next dc, popcorn in next dc, ch 1, dc in next dc; repeat from * across side of blanket, (popcorn, ch 2, popcorn) in corner ch-sp of blanket; edge remaining 3 sides and 2 corners in same manner; join with sl st in top of beginning ch.
