One size US H-8 (5 mm) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge

Stitch marker (optional)

GAUGE

In single crochet, 16 sts and 16 rows = 4"/10cm.

 

STITCHES USED

Chain (ch), single crochet (sc), slip stitch (sl st)

 

SPECIAL STITCH

sc2tog: Single crochet 2 together—Insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and draw up a loop, (2 loops on hook), insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook.

HELPFUL

All increases and decreases are worked on RS rows of each strip. You may wish to use a stitch marker to indicate the RS.

 

STRIP A (make 6)

With A, ch 18.

Row 1 (RS): Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each remaining ch across, turn—17 sc.

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn.

Row 3: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in each sc across to last 2 sc, sc2tog, turn—15 sc.

Rows 4–11: Repeat last 2 rows 4 more times—7 sc at the end of Row 11.

Rows 12–14: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn.

Row 15: Ch 1, 2 sc in first sc, sc in each sc across to last sc, 2 sc in last sc, turn—9 sc.

Rows 16–23: Repeat last 2 rows 4 more times—17 sc.

Rows 24 and 25: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn.

Rows 26–145: Repeat Rows 2–25 five more times.

Rows 146 –168: Repeat Rows 2–24.

Fasten off.

Edging

Join C with sc in any corner, sc evenly spaced all the way around strip, working 3 sc in each corner; join with sl st in first sc. Fasten off.

Embroidery

With B, embroider a 12-pointed star, as shown in diagram, in center of each wide section of strip.

 

STRIP B (make 5)

With B, ch 8.

Row 1 (RS): Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each remaining ch across, turn—7 sc.

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn.

Row 3: Ch 1, 2 sc in first sc, sc in each sc across to last sc, 2 sc in last sc, turn—9 sc.

Rows 4–11: Repeat last 2 rows 4 more times—17 sc at the end of Row 11.

Rows 12–14: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn.

Row 15: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in each sc across to last 2 sc, sc2tog, turn—15 sc.

Rows 16–23: Repeat last 2 rows 4 more times—7 sc.

Rows 24 and 25: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn.

Rows 26–145: Repeat Rows 2–25 five more times.

Edging and Embroidery

Work edging same as edging for strip A. With A, embroider a 12-pointed star, in center of each wide section of strip.

 

FINISHING

Arrange strips, as shown in photograph, alternating strip A and strip B. With C, sew long edges of strips together.

Border

Join C with sc in any corner, sc evenly spaced all the way around blanket, working 3 sc in each corner; join with sl st in first sc. Fasten off.
