Knit & Crochet
Shawl

with

designed by Diane Moyer

TECHNIQUE USED: Knit and Crochet

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

Shawl measures approximately 50"/127cm wide x 22 1/2"/57cm long at center back, not including crochet lace.

Notes: Crocheted lace adds about 3 1/2"/9cm to length at center point of stitch pattern. All measurements are after blocking.

MATERIALS

Caron International's Simply Soft Collection (100% Acrylic, 6 oz/170g, 315 yd/288 m):
#0014 Pagoda: 2 skeins

One pair US 9 (5.5mm), or size to obtain gauge

One size US J-10 (6mm), or size to obtain gauge

Stitch marker

Yarn needle

GAUGE

In Garter stitch, 16 sts and 27 rows = 4"/10cm, with US 9 (5.5mm) needles;

In crochet lace pattern, one pattern repeat = 6 1/2"/16.5cm and 6 rows = 3 1/2"/9cm to center point, with US J-10 (6mm) hook.

Gauge is not critical for this project.

KNIT STITCHES USED

Garter stitch: Knit all sts every row.

CROCHET STITCHES USED

SPECIAL STITCHES

k2tog: Knit 2 together– Knit 2 sts together through the front loops. (1 st decreased)

ssk: Slip, slip, knit – Slip 2 sts, one at a time KNITWISE to right-hand needle, insert left-hand needle into front of these sts and knit them together. (1 st decreased)

NOTES

1. Body of shawl is knit in Garter stitch, working side-to-side to form a triangle. The lace border is then worked across the lower edge.

2. All increasing and decreasing of the body of the shawl is worked on the RS.
