MATERIALS

Caron International's Simply Soft (100% acrylic; 6 oz/170 g, 315 yds/288 m skein):

Color A: #9727 Black , 1 skein

Color B:  #9722 Plum Wine, 1 skein

Color C: #9703 Bone, 1 skein

Color D: #9750 Chocolate, 1 skein

Caron International's Simply Soft Shadows (100% acrylic; 3 oz/85g, 150 yds/137m ball):

Color E: #0008 Opal Twist, 4 skeins

US H/8 (5mm) crochet hook, or size to obtain gauge

 

GAUGE

In dc, with US H/8 hook, 15 dc = 4", 6 rows = 3.5"

Gauge is not critical for this project.

 

STITCHES USED

Chain (ch)

Double crochet (dc)

Half double crochet (hdc)

Single crochet (sc)

Shell Stitch (worked on a multiple of 4 sts)

Row 1: Ch 1, sc in first st, *skip one st, 3 dc in next st, skip one st, sc in next st. Repeat from * across, ending skip 2 sts, 3 dc in last st. Turn.

Row 2: Ch 1. Sc in top of first dc, * 3dc in sc of previous row, sc in center st of 3dc of previous row. Repeat from * across, end 3 dc in top of last sc. Turn.

Repeat Row 2 for patt.

Texture Stitch (multiple of 2 sts)

Row 1: Ch 1, sc in first st, dc in next st, *sc in next st, dc in next st. Repeat from * across. Turn.

Repeat Row 1 for patt.

 

NOTES

1. Leave 8" – 9" at beginning and end of each color change, to be worked into fringe.

2. First ch-3 in row counts as dc.

3. First ch-2 in rows does not count as first hdc.

 

HELPFUL

1. Count stitches every few rows to be sure you have the correct amount.

 

DIRECTIONS

With A, Loosely, ch 182.

Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook and each ch across.  (180 dc)

Row 2: Ch 3, turn. Skip first st, dc in next st and each st across. (180 dc) End off A.

Row 3: Turn. Join E, ch 2, hdc in first st and each st across.  (180 hdc)

Row 4: Turn. Ch 2, hdc in first st and each st across. End off E.

Row 5: Turn. Join B. Ch 1. Work Row 1 of Shell Stitch pattern,

Row 6: Turn. Work Row 2 of Shell Stitch pattern. End off B.

Row 7: Turn. Join D. Ch 2, hdc in each dc and sc across. (180 hdc)
Row 8: Turn. Ch 2. Hdc in each hdc across. End off D.

Row 9: Turn. Join C. Work Row 1 of Texture st pattern.

Row 10: Turn. Repeat Row 9.

Row 11: Turn. Repeat Row 9. End off C.

Row 12: Turn. Join D. Ch 2. Hdc in each st across. (180 hdc)

Row 13: Turn. Ch 2. Hdc in each hdc across. End off D.

Row 14: Turn. Join B. Repeat Row 5.

Row 15: Turn. Repeat Row 6. End off B.

Row 16: Turn. Join E. Repeat Row 3.

Row 17: Turn. Repeat Row 4. End off E.

Row 18: Turn. Join A. Ch 1, sc in first st and each st across. (180 sc)

Row 19. Turn. Ch 1, sc in first sc and each sc across. End off A.

Rows 20 – 104: Repeat Rows (3 – 19) five more times.

Rows 105 – 119: Repeat Rows (3 – 17) one more time.

Row 120: Turn. Join A. Ch 3. Skip first st. Dc in next st and each st across.  (180 dc)

Row 121: Turn. Ch 3. Skip first st. Dc in next st and each st across. End off.

 

FINISHING

Cut 15" lengths of yarn for the fringe. Use 2 strands of the matching color at the end of each row. Fold both strands of yarn in half, insert hk into st, catch the fold of fringe and pull through. Yarn over the hook with the loose ends, pull through the loop on hook. Repeat for every row end. Trim the fringe to make it even.
