One pair US size 6 (4 mm) needles

In Pin St, using US size 8 (5 mm) needles, 17 sts and 30 rows = 4"/10 cm

 

STITCHES USED

Pin Stitch (multiple of 2 sts +1; 8-row repeat)

Row 1 (WS): Purl.

Row 2: K1, *sl1 wyib, k1; rep from *.

Row 3: K1, *sl1 wyif, k1; rep from *

Row 4: Knit.

Row 5: Purl.

Row 6: K2, *sl1 wyib, k1; rep from *, end k1.

Row 7: K2, *sl1 wyif, k1; rep from *, end k1.

Row 8: Knit.

3x2 Rib (multiple of 5 sts + 2, 2-row repeat)

Row 1 (RS): K2, *p2, k3; rep from * to end.

Row 2: *P3, k2; rep from *, end p2.

 

BACK

Using smaller ndls and MC, CO 97 (107, 117, 127, 137, 147) sts.

(WS) Begin 3x2 rib and work even until piece measures 4 (5, 5, 6, 6, 6)" from beginning, end with a RS row.

Dec row: P2tog, p1, k2tog, *p3, k2tog; rep from * across, end p2—77 (85, 93, 101, 109, 117) sts.

Change to larger ndls. Begin with (RS) Row 2 of Pin st patt, work even until piece measures 14 1/4 (15, 15, 15 3/4, 16, 16)" from beginning, end with a WS row.

Armhole shaping

(RS) BO 4 (4, 5, 5, 6, 6) sts at beginning of next 2 rows— 69 (77, 83, 91, 97, 105) sts remain.

(RS) Keeping the 1st and last st in St st, dec 1 st each side every other row 4 (4, 5, 5, 6, 6) times— 61 (69, 73, 81, 85, 93) sts remain.

Work even until armhole measures 7 3/4 (8, 8 1/2, 8 3/4, 9, 9 1/4)" from beginning of shaping, end with a WS row. Place marker (pm) each side of center 9 (13, 13, 15, 15, 15) sts for neck—26 (28, 30, 33, 35, 39) sts each side.

Neck and Shoulder Shaping

(RS) Work across to marker, join a second ball of yarn and BO center sts, work to end. 

Working both sides at same time, at each neck edge BO 4 (5, 5, 5, 6, 7) sts 2 (2, 2, 2, 2, 2) times; And AT THE SAME TIME,at each armhole edge BO 6 (6, 6, 7, 7, 9) sts once, then 6 (6, 7, 8, 8, 8) sts 2 times.

 

FRONT

Work as for Back until armhole measures 4 3/4 (5, 5 1/2, 5 3/4, 6, 6 1/4)" from beginning of shaping, end with a WS row— 61 (69, 73, 81, 85, 93) sts remain. Pm each side of center 7 (11, 11, 13, 13, 13) sts.

Neck Shaping

(RS) Work across to marker, join a second ball of yarn and BO center sts for Front neck, work to end—26 (29, 31, 34, 36, 40) sts each side. Working both sides at same time, at each neck edge BO 2 sts once 1 (2, 2, 2, 3, 4) times. Dec 1 st at neck edge every other row 6 (7, 7, 7, 7, 7) times – 18 (18, 20, 23, 23, 25) sts remain each side. Work even until armhole measures same as Back to shoulder shaping, end with a WS row.

Shoulder Shaping

As for Back.

 

SLEEVES

Using smaller needles and MC, CO 62 (62, 67, 67, 67, 67) sts.

(WS) Begin 3x2 rib and work even until piece measures 5 (5 1/2, 6, 6, 6 1/2, 6 1/2)" from beginning, end with a RS row.

Dec row: P2tog, p1, k2tog, *p3, k2tog; rep from * across, end p2—49 (49, 53, 53, 53, 53) sts.

Change to larger ndls. Begin with (RS) Row 2 of Pin st patt, work even until piece measures 1” from beginning of patt st, end with a WS row.

Sleeve Shaping

Inc 1 st each side this row, then every 8 (8, 8, 6, 4, 4) rows 5 (7, 8, 11, 16, 18) times—61 (65, 71, 77, 87, 91) sts.

Work even until piece measures 18 1/2 (18 1/2, 19 1/2, 20, 20, 20)" from the beginning, end with a WS row.

Cap Shaping

(RS) BO 4 (4, 5, 5, 6, 6) sts at beginning of next 2 rows— 53 (57, 61, 67, 75, 79) sts remain.

BO 0 (0, 0, 2, 4, 5) sts at the beginning of next 2 rows— 53 (57, 61, 63, 67, 69) sts remain.

(RS) Keeping 1st and last st in St st, dec 1 st each side every row 6 (6, 6, 6, 6, 6) times—41 (45, 49, 51, 55, 57) sts remain. Dec 1 st each side every other row 14 (15, 16, 17, 19, 20) times. BO remaining 13 (15, 17, 17, 17, 17) sts.

 

FINISHING

Block pieces to measurements.  Sew shoulder seams. Set in sleeves; sew side and sleeve seams.

 

COLLAR

With smaller circular ndl, CO 130 (140, 150, 160, 170, 180) sts. Join being careful not to twist stitches. Pm. Work Row 1 of 3 x 2 rib for 3 (3, 3, 3 1/2, 4, 4)”.

Dec row: *K3, p2tog; repeat from * around. – 104 (112, 120, 128, 136, 144) sts.

Next row: *K3, p1; repeat from * around.

Rep last row until piece measures 6 (6, 6 1/2, 6 1/2, 7 1/2, 8)” from beg

BO loosely in patt.

Sew BO edge of collar to neckline having WS of sweater to RS of collar and easing to fit.
