Caron International's Simply Soft
 

6 oz (A); 6 oz (B).

Caron International's Simply Soft Heather

(100% Acrylic; 5 oz/141.8 g, 250 yds/228 m skein): 5 oz (C).

Shown in: #9727 Black (A); #9742 Grey Heather (B), #9508 Charcoal Heather (C).

One size US K-10.5 (6.5 mm) crochet hook, or size to obtain gauge

Yarn Needle

 

GAUGE

In Leaf Cluster pattern, 2 LfCl repeats = 3"/7.5 cm and 5 rows = 4"/10 cm.

 

STITCHES USED

Chain (ch), double crochet (dc), single crochet (sc)

SPECIAL TERMS

LfCl: Leaf Cluster – *Yarn over, insert hook in next ch-5 space and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook (2 loops on hook), [yarn over insert hook in same ch-5 space and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook] 3 times (5 loops on hook); repeat from * one more time, yarn over and draw through all 9 loops on hook. Note: A Leaf Cluster is always worked over 2 consecutive ch-5 spaces.

 

NOTES

1. Work in the following color sequence throughout: 2 rows with A, *3 rows with B, 3 rows with C, 3 rows with B, 3 rows with A; repeat from *  as needed, 1 row with A.

2. Change colors in the last stitch of a row, as follows: Work last stitch of row to last yarn over, yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook to complete stitch.

 

SHAWL

Beginning at lower point of shawl, with A, chain 18.

Row 1 (WS): Sc in 12th ch from hook (beginning ch counts as 3 foundation ch, dc, ch 5), ch 5, skip next 5 ch, sc in last ch, turn.

Row 2: Ch 8 (counts as dc, ch 5 here and throughout), LfCl (work this LfCl over the first ch-5 space, and ch-5 space formed as part of the beginning ch), ch 5; dc in 6th ch of beginning ch; change to B, turn—1 LfCl.

Row 3: Ch 8, (sc, ch 5, sc) in first ch-5 space, ch 5, (sc, ch 5, sc) in next ch-5 space, ch 5; dc in 3rd ch of turning ch, turn—5 ch-5 spaces.

Row 4: Ch 8, sc in first ch-5 space, *ch 5, sc in next ch-5 space; repeat from * across, ch 5; dc in 3rd ch of turning ch, turn—6 ch-5 spaces.

Row 5: Ch 8, [LfCl, ch 7] twice, LfCl, ch 5; dc in 3rd ch of turning ch, change to C, turn—3 LfCl.

Row 6: Ch 8, (sc, ch 5, sc) in first ch-5 space, ch 5, [(sc, ch 5, sc) in next ch-7 space, ch 5] twice, (sc, ch 5, sc) in last ch-5 space, ch 5; dc in 3rd ch of turning ch, turn—9 ch-5 spaces.

Row 7: Ch 8, sc in first ch-5 space, *ch 5, sc in next ch-5 space; repeat from * across, ch 5; dc in 3rd ch of turning ch, turn—10 ch-5 spaces

Row 8: Ch 8, *LfCl, ch 7; repeat from * to last 2 ch-5 spaces, LfCl, ch 5; dc in 3rd ch of turning ch, change to B, turn—5 LfCl.

Rows 9–62: Repeat Rows 6–8 eighteen times, continuing in color sequence as listed in Note #1; do not change to B in last st of last row—41 LfCl.

Row 63: With A, ch 1, 3 sc in first dc, 4 sc in next ch-5 space, sc in next LfCl, *6 sc in next ch-7 space, sc in next LfCl; repeat from * to last 2 ch-5 spaces, 4 sc in last ch-5 space, 3 sc in last dc. Fasten off.

 

FINISHING
