Caron International's Simply Soft Heather

(100% acrylic, 5 oz/142 g, approx 250 yds/228 m): #9501 Autumn  Heather, 2 (3, 3) skeins (A)

solid (100% acrylic; 6 oz/170 g, approx 315 yds/288 m): #9742 Grey Heather (B) and  #9730 Autumn Red (C), 1 skein each

One pair size US 8 (5mm) needles, or size to obtain gauge

GAUGE

In Moss st 18 sts and 24 rows = 4”/10 cm

 

STITCHES USED

Moss Stitch (Moss st)

Row 1:* K1, p1; repeat from * across.

Row 2: * P1, k1; repeat from * across.

Stockinette Stitch (St st)

Cable Pattern (multiple of 18 sts plus 8)

Row 1: *P1, C6 (slip next 3 sts onto a cn and hold in back, k3 from left hand needle, k3 sts from cn), p1, k10; repeat from * to last 8 sts, p1,C6, p1.

Row 2: Knit the knit sts and purl the purl sts.

Rows 3-10: Repeat row 2.

 

CAPELET

With color A, cast on 234 (248, 269) sts. Work in Moss st for 6 rows. Join colors B and C. Following graph, work Rows 1-17, keeping first 5 and last 5 sts in Moss st using color A. Cut B and C. Continuing with color A hereafter, work 4 rows in Moss st, inc 0 (4, 1) st(s) on first row – 234 (252, 270) sts..

Next row (WS): Work 5 Moss sts, *k1, p6, k1, p10; repeat from * to last 13 sts, k1, p6, k1, 5 Moss sts.

Continue to keep the first 5 and last 5 sts in Moss st and the 224 (242, 260) sts between in cable pattern until piece measures 12 1/2 (13 1/2, 14 1/2)” from beg, ending with a WS row.

Dec row 1 (RS): Work 5 Moss sts, *p1, k6, p1, [k2tog, k3tog(twice), k2tog,; repeat from * to last 13 sts,  p 1, k6, p1, 5 moss sts -- 162 (174, 186 sts).

Next row: Work 5 Moss sts, knit the knit sts and purl the purl sts to last 5 sts, 5 Moss sts.

Next row: Work 5 Moss sts, *p1, k6, p1, k4; repeat from * to last 13 sts, p1, k6, p1, 5 Moss sts.

Continue working in pattern as adjusted in the last 2 rows until piece measures 15 (16, 17)” from beg, ending with a WS row.

Dec row 2 (RS): Work 5 Moss sts, p1, k6, *k3tog tbl (twice), k6; repeat from * to last 6 sts, p1, 5 moss sts – 114 (122, 130 sts)

Next row: Work 5 Moss sts, knit the knit sts and purl the purls to last 5 sts, 5 Moss sts.

Continue working in pattern as adjusted in the last 2 rows until piece measure 16 (17, 18)” from beg. 

Dec row 3: Working in Moss st on all sts dec 26 sts evenly spaced across row – 88 (96, 104) sts.

Work even in Moss st for 2 rows.

Buttonhole row (RS): K1, p1, bind off 1st, work in Moss st as established to end of row.

Next row: Work in Moss st casting on 1 st above bound-off st on previous row.

Continue in Moss st until there are 6 (8, 10) rows for neckband. Bind off.

 

FINISHING
