Caron International's Simply Soft Light (100% Acrylic; 3oz/85g, 334yds/306m):

#0007 Capri, 3(3, 4, 4) skeins

One size U.S. 6 (4mm) circular needles, or size to obtain gauge
One size U.S. 7 (4.5mm) circular needles

Three stitch holders
Stitch markers

GAUGE
In Lace Pattern on size U.S. 6 (4mm) needles, 22 sts and 26 rows = 4”/10 cm

SPECIAL ABBREVIATIONS
k2tog: Knit 2 stitches together through front loops.
S2KP2: Slip 2 stitches together knitwise to right-hand needle, k1, pass 2 slipped stitches over.
ssk: Slip 2 stitches, one at a time knitwise to right-hand needle, return stitches back to left-hand needle in turned position, knit stitches together through back loops.
w&t: wrap and turn

STITCHES USED
Broomstick Stitch: Drop extra wraps off needles, slip 3 sts to right-hand needle, (k1, bring needle forward and yo, k1) in 3-sts on right-hand needle.

Lace Stitch (multiple of 21 sts)
Row 1 (RS): K1, ssk, k1, yo, k1, p1, k1, yo, k2, S2KP2, k2, yo, k1, p1, k1, yo, k1, k2tog, p1.
Row 2 (WS): Knit the knit sts and purl the purl sts and the yarn overs as they face you.
Row 3 (RS): P1, ssk, k1, yo, k1, p1, k1, yo, k2, S2KP2, k2, yo, k1, p1, k1, yo, k1, k2tog, k1.
Row 4 (WS): Knit the knit sts and purl the purl sts and the yarn overs as they face you.
Rep Rows 1-4 for Lace St pattern.

NOTES

  • Circular needle is to accommodate large number of stitches; work back and forth in rows.
  • Top is knit in two pieces, and then joined at shoulders and side of body.
  • Work neckband in-the-round; work sleeves broomstick edge back and forth after shoulder seaming.

BACK
With lager needles, CO 108 (129, 150, 171) sts. Do not join.
Row 1 (RS): *K1, p1, k1; rep from * across.
Row 2: K1, *k wrapping yarn 2 times around needle; rep from * across.
Row 3: *Broomstick st in next 3 sts; rep from * across.
Row 4: Rep Row 1.
Rows 5-12: Rep Rows 1-4, two more times.
Change to smaller needles and work Lace St as follows:
For sizes S/L only:
Row 13: P1, *work Row 1 of Lace st to last 2 sts, k2tog -107 (149) sts.
Row 14 and all Even Rows: Work even in established pat.
Row 15: K1, *work Row 3 of Lace st to last st, k1.
Work even in established pat until piece measures 14 (14.5)”/37cm from beg, ending with Row 16.
Next Row (inc): Inc 1 st at beg of next 8 rows, then inc 3 sts (CO) at beg of next 2 rows - 121 (163) sts. Continue working as follows:

Shape V-Neck, Armholes and Shoulders
Left Side Neck
Next Row (RS): Work 53 (64, 74, 85) sts in established pat, k2tog, place split ring in last st.
Dec 1 st at beg of every WS row 30 (31, 32, 33) times, then 1 st every 4 rows 2 times; at the same time, when piece measures same length as Back to armhole, shape armhole same as back and when armhole is same length as Back, shape shoulder.

Right Side Neck
Next Row (RS): Ssk first 2 sts, continue in established pat to end.
Dec 1 st at beg of every RS row 29 (30, 31, 32) times, then 1 st every 4 rows 2 times; at the same time, when same length as Back to armhole shape armhole as on Back and when armhole is same length as Back, shape shoulder.

FINISHING
Block pieces to measurements.

Armbands
With lager needles, CO 78 (90, 102, 114) sts.
Row 1 (RS): *K1, p1, k1; rep from * across.
Row 2: K1, *k wrapping yarn 2 times around needle; rep from * across.
Row 3: *Broomstick st in next 3 sts; rep from * across.
Row 4: Rep Row 1.
Rep Rows 1-4 two more times.
BO all sts across.

Neckband
With RS facing and smaller needles, starting at the left corner of Front pick up 175 (183, 191, 199) sts across Front and 94 (96, 98, 100) across Back. Place a split ring marker in st 89 (93, 97, 101).
Set-up Rnd: *K1, p1; rep from * to 1 st before marker, S2KP2, **p1, k1; rep from ** to last st, p1.
Next Rnd: K sts to 1 st before marker, S2KP2, k sts to end.
Rep last 2 rnds until neckband measures 3”/7.5cm from beg.
BO all sts around.

Assembly
Join shoulder and side seams, armbands to armholes. Using yarn needle weave in all ends.
