Two size U.S.6 (4.25mm) double-point needles for I-cord or

4 split ring markers

GAUGE
In St st, 22 sts and 24 rows = 4"/10cm
 

STITCHES USED
Stockinette (St st):
Knit on RS, purl on WS.

Garter Stitch (Garter st):
Knit every row.
 

NOTE
Hat is worked flat, then seamed up the back.
 

JACKET
BACK
CO 55 (63, 69) sts. Work in Garter st for 5 rows.
Starting on RS with a knit row, work in St st until piece measures 5 ½ (6, 7 ½)” from beg, ending with a WS row. Place marker at each end of last row to mark for armholes. Cont in St st until piece measures 9 ½ (10 ½, 13)"/24 (26.5, 33)cm from beg, ending with a WS row. BO all sts.

 

RIGHT FRONT
CO 27 (31, 34) st. Work in Garter st for 5 rows.
Starting on RS with a knit row, work in St st until piece measures 5 ½ (6, 7 ½)” from beg, ending with a WS row. Place marker at beg of last WS row for armhole.

Shape neck
For sizes 3-6 (12) months only:
Dec 1 st at neck edge every row 8 (6) times, then every other row 3 (5) times—16 (20) sts. Work even until piece measures 9 ½ (10 ½)”/24 (26.5)cm from beg, ending with a WS row. BO.
For size 18 months only:
Dec 1 st at neck edge every other row 11 times, then every 4th row once--22 sts.
Work even until piece measures 13"/33cm from beg, ending with a WS row. BO.

 

LEFT FRONT
Work same as Right Front, reversing neck shaping.

 

SLEEVES
CO 28 (34, 40) sts. Work in Garter st for 5 rows.
Starting on RS with a knit row, work in St st working inc rows as follows:
For size 3-6 (12) months only:
Inc 1 st at each end every 4th row 8 (9) times—44 (52) sts.
For size 18 months only:
Inc 1 st each end every other row 7 times, then every 4th row 5 times—64 sts.
For all sizes:
Work even until Sleeve measures 6 (7, 8 ½)”/15 (18, 21.5)cm from beg, ending with a WS row. BO.
 

FINISHING
Sew shoulder seams. Sew in Sleeves between armhole markers. Sew Sleeve and side seams.

Jacket Ribbing
Mark 4 (4, 5) buttonholes evenly spaced on Right Front. With RS facing, beg at Right Front lower edge, pickup and k16 (30, 38) sts evenly along Right Front to neck shaping, 17 (23, 25) sts along Right Front neck edge, 23 (23, 25) sts on Back neck, 17 (23, 25) along Left Front neck edge to end of neck shaping, then 16 (30, 38) sts along Left Front edge—89 (129, 151) sts. Rows 1-3: Work in Garter st.
Row 4: *K to 1 st before buttonhole marker, BO 2 sts; repeat from * across all markers, k to end of row.
Row 5: K and CO 2 sts over each set of BO sts.
Rows 6-12: Work in Garter st. BO.
Sew buttons on Left Front opposite buttonholes.

Weave in all ends. Block.
 

HAT
CO 82 (90, 95) sts. Work in Garter st for 9 rows.
Starting on RS with knit row, work in St st until piece measures 3 ½ (4 ¼, 5 ¼)”/9 (11, 13.5)cm from beg, ending with a WS row.

Crown
Row 1 (RS): *K8, k2tog; repeat from across, ending k2 (0, 5)—74 (81, 86) sts.
Row 2 and all even rows: Purl.
Row 3: *K7, k2tog; repeat from * across, ending k2 (0, 5)—66 (72, 77) sts.
Row 5: *K6, k2tog; repeat from * across, ending k2 (0, 5)—58 (63, 68) sts.
Row 7: *K5, k2tog; repeat from * across, ending k2 (0, 5)—50 (54, 59) sts.
Row 9: *K4, k2tog; repeat across, ending k2 (0, 5)—42 (45, 50) sts.
Row 11: *K3, k2tog; repeat from * across, ending k2 (0, 5)—34 (36, 41) sts.
Row 13: *K2, k2tog; repeat from * across, ending k2 (0, 5)—26 (27, 32) sts.
Row 15: *K1, k2tog, repeat from * across, ending k2 (0, 5)—18 (18, 23) sts.
Row 17: K2tog across—9 (9, 11) sts.
Row 18: Purl.
End off, leaving a long enough tail to sew back seam. Thread tail in yarn needle and pull tightly through remaining sts. Fasten securely on WS.

 

FINISHING
Sew back seam of Hat.
Weave in all ends. Block.

I-cord Flower
CO 4 sts onto one dpn. *K4 sts (do not turn work), slide sts to right end of
needle and pull yarn tightly; repeat from * until I-cord measures approx. 20”/51cm. BO.
Arrange the cord into 5 loops as shown on Hat forming a flower. Sew in place on Hat with a large button in center of flower.
