GAUGE 

In Seed st using U.S. size 9 (5.5mm) needles, 14 sts and 20 rows = 4"/10 cm

STITCHES USED

Seed stitch:

Row 1: K1, *p1, k1; rep from * across.

Repeat Row 1 always having a k st over a p st and a p st over a k st.

BACK

CO 45 (49, 53, 57) sts. Work in Seed St until piece measures 13 (15, 17, 19)" from beg. BO loosely.

LEFT FRONT

CO 21 (23, 25, 27) sts. Work in Seed st inc 1 st at front edge every other row 8 (9, 10, 10) times—29 (32, 35, 37) sts. Work until piece measures 10 (12, 14, 16)" from beg, end with a RS row.

Shape Neck

Next row (WS): BO 10 (11, 12, 13) sts (neck edge), finish row. Dec 1 st at neck edge every other row 5 (6, 7, 7) times—14 (15, 16, 17) sts. Work even until piece measures same as Back to shoulder. BO rem sts.

RIGHT FRONT

Work as for Left Front, reversing all shaping, working buttonholes when piece measures 8 (10, 12, 14)" from beg, as follows:

Buttonhole row (RS): Work 3 Seed sts from front edge, BO 2 sts, work 5 Seed sts, BO 2 sts, finish row.  Next row (WS): Work in Seed st and CO 2 sts over each set of bound-off sts.

SLEEVES

CO 27 (29, 31, 33) sts. Work in Seed St until piece measures 4 (4, 5, 5)" from beg, Inc 1 st each edge every 4th row 3 (4, 5, 6) times—33 (37, 41, 45) sts.Work even until piece measures 11 (13, 15, 16)" from beg, end with a WS row.

Shape Cap

BO 4 (4, 5, 5) sts at beg of next 2 rows. BO rem 25 (29, 31, 35) sts.

FINISHING

Block pieces to measurements.  Sew shoulder seams. Set in sleeves; sew sleeve and side seams.

HOOD

With RS facing, pick up and k 21 (22, 23, 24) sts along right neck edge, 17 (19, 21, 23) sts along back, 21 (22, 23, 24) sts along left front neck edge—59 (61, 65, 67) sts. Work in Seed st until hood measures 10 (11, 12, 13)", end with a WS row.

Next Row (RS):  Work 28 (29, 31, 32) sts, work next 2 sts tog; leaving remaining 29 (30, 32, 33) sts on right-hand needle. Fold in half and with WS facing, work 3-needle BO across both sets of sts.

(Optional: BO all 59 (61, 65, 67) sts. Fold in half with RS's facing and sew top hood seam.)

POCKETS (make 2)

CO 13 (15, 17, 19) sts. Work in Seed st for 3 ¾ (4, 4 ¼, 4 ½, 5)". BO.

Sew on pockets (see photo).

Using yarn needle, weave in ends. Sew on buttons.
