Springbrook, 1 (2, 3) skeins (CC)

Caron International's Simply Soft (100% acrylic, 6 oz/170g, 315yds/288m):
#9710 Country Blue, 2 (3, 4) skeins (MC)
One size US G crochet hook

Stuffing - polyfill

One pair size US 6 (4.25 mm) needles, or size to obtain gauge
One pair size US 8 (5 mm) needles, or size to obtain gauge
One crochet hook size US F/5 (3.75 mm)

GAUGE
In Garter st using smaller needles, 18 sts and 24 rows = 4"/10cm
In Brick pattern using larger needles, 16 sts and 24 rows = 4"/10cm
ABBREVIATIONS
sl 1 k: slip 1 knitwise
sl 1 p: slip 1 purlwise
STITCHES USED
Garter stitch (Garter st)
Brick Pattern(multiple of 6 + 2)
Row 1 (RS): With MC, knit.
Row 2: With MC, purl.
Row 3: With CC, * k5, sl 1 k; repeat from * across, ending with k2.
Row 4: With CC, p2, *sl 1 p, p5; repeat from * across.
Rows 5 and 6: Repeat Rows 1 and 2.
Row 7: With CC, k2, * sl 1 k, k5; repeat from * across.
Row 8: With CC, p5, * sl 1 p, p5; repeat from * across, ending with sl 1, p2.
Repeat Rows 1-8 rows for Brick pattern.
NOTE
Carry yarn along side of work to avoid loose ends.
BACK
With MC and smaller needles, CO 50 (56, 62) sts.
Work 4 rows Garter st. Change to larger needles and CC.
Starting with Row 3, work in Brick pattern until piece measures 7 (8, 10)” from beginning.
Place marker each end of last row for armholes.
Continue in pattern until piece measures approximately 12 1/2" (14, 16 1/2)” from beginning, end with Row 2 or 6. BO all sts.
RIGHT FRONT
With MC and smaller needles, CO 26 (26, 32) sts.
Work 4 rows Garter st. Change to larger needles and CC.
Work same as Back until piece measures 7 (8, 10)" from beginning.
Place marker at end of RS row for armhole.
Continue in pattern for 3 1/2” more, ending with a RS row.
Shape Neck
(WS) Work pattern across 22 (22, 28) sts, put remaining 4 sts on a holder.
Dec 1 st at neck edge every RS rows until 17 (19, 23) sts remain. Work until piece measures 12 1/2 (14, 16 1/2)” from beginning, end with WS row. BO.
LEFT FRONT
Work same as Right Front, reversing neck shaping.
Marker for armhole will at beginning of RS row.
SLEEVES
With MC and smaller needles, CO 36 (36, 42) sts.
Work 4 rows Garter st. Change to larger needles and CC.
Starting with Row 3, work in Brick pattern, inc 1 st each end every 8 (6, 6) rows 4 (6, 5) times – 44 (48, 52) sts. Work even until sleeve measures approximately 9 (10, 12)" from beginning, ending with Row 2 or 6. BO all sts loosely.
FINISHING
Sew shoulder seams. Set in Sleeves between the markers. Sew side and Sleeve seams. Using yarn needle, weave in ends.
Collar
With RS facing, using MC and larger needles, k4 sts from Right Front holder, pick up and k15 (17, 19) sts along neck edge, k16 (18, 22) sts from Back neck, pick up and k15 (17, 19) sts along Left Front neck, k4 sts from Left Front holder – 54 (60, 68) sts. Work 4 rows Garter st. Knit next row, inc 8 sts evenly across – 62 (68, 76) sts. Work Garter st until collar measures 2 1/2 (3, 3 1/2)" from beginning, ending with WS row. BO loosely.
Front Bands
Starting at Right Front lower edge with MC and smaller needles, pick up and approximately k50 (56, 60) sts evenly up Right Front. Work 4 (6, 4) rows Garter st. BO.
Work Left Front band same as Right Front band.
Buttonloops
With MC and crochet hook, leaving a 2 1/2" tail, chain 10 sts, then end off leaving another 2 1/2" tail. Note: You will use these tails to join the loops to Left Front of jacket. Place loops evenly along Left Front in center of band and tie on in place using yarn tails.
Sew buttons to Right Front in center of band matching the loops. Using a needle and thread, tack down the loops near the front edge of bands, so buttons won't slip out of the loops.
