#0007 Harlequin (A), 16 oz

Caron International's Simply Soft (100% acrylic):

#9711 Dk Country Blue (B), 6 oz

One size US I-9 (5.5 mm) crochet hook, or size to obtain gauge

Yarn needle

 

GAUGE

In pattern rows, first 7 rows = 10"/25.5 cm measured from side to side; first 7 rows = 5"/12.5 cm measured from center to point.

SPECIAL TERMS

SHAWL

Row 1 (RS): With A, chain 4 (beginning ch counts as first dc); work 8 dc in 4th ch from hook, turn—9 dc.

Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout), dc in first dc (increase made), (dc, ch 2, dc) in next dc (V-st made), skip next dc, dc in next dc, ch 2, (dc, ch 3, dc) in next dc (corner made), ch 2, dc in next dc, skip next dc, V-st in next dc, 2 dc in last dc (increase made), turn—12 dc, 4 ch-2 spaces, and 1 corner ch-3 space.

Row 3: Ch 1, 2 sc in first dc, sc in next dc, skip next dc, 3 sc in each ch-2 space to corner ch-3 space, 5 sc in corner ch-3 space (corner made), 3 sc in each ch-2 space to last 3 dc, skip next dc, sc in next dc, 2 sc in last dc, turn—23 sc.

Row 4: Ch 3, dc in first dc, dc in each sc to center sc of corner 5-sc group, 5 dc in center sc of corner 5-sc group (corner made), dc in each sc to last sc, 2 dc in last sc, turn—29 dc.

Row 5: Ch 3, dc in first dc, *V-st in next dc, skip next 2 dc; repeat from * to center 3 dc of corner 5-dc group, skip next dc, dc in next dc, ch 2, (dc, ch 3, dc) in next dc (corner made), ch 2, dc in next dc, **skip next 2 dc, V-st in next dc; repeat from ** to last dc, 2 dc in last dc, turn—24 dc, 10 ch-2 spaces, and 1 corner ch-3 space.

Repeat Rows 3–5 thirteen more times. Do not fasten off.

Edging Round: Repeat Row 3 once more; do not turn at end of row; working in ends of rows along top edge, sc in corner, sc evenly spaced across to next corner, sc in corner; join with slip st in first sc. Fasten off.
