FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

Each strip: 4 ½"/11.5cm wide x 26"/66cm long

Braided cowl: 10"/25.5cm wide and 26"/66cm circumference

 

MATERIALS

Caron International's 'Simply Soft Collection' (100% acrylic, 6oz/170g,
315yds/288m):
Shown in: #0007 Aqua Mist (A), 6oz/170g; #0014 Pagoda (B), 6oz/170g;
Caron International's 'Simply Soft Paints' (100% acrylic, 4oz/113g, 200yds/182m):
Shown in: #0004 Spring Brook (C), 4oz/113g

One pair size U.S. 8 (5mm) needles or size to obtain gauge

Yarn needle

 

GAUGE

In St st, using U.S. size 8 (5 mm) needles, 18 sts and 21 rows = 4"/10 cm

Note: Gauge is not critical to project.

 

STITCHES USED

Stockinette stitch (St st):

K on RS, p on WS.

Seed stitch (seed st):

Row 1: K1, *p1, k1; repeat from * across.

Repeat Row 1 always having a k st over a p st and a p st over a k st.

Eyelet Pattern (multiple of 2 sts + 1):

Row 1 (RS): K1,*yo, k2tog; * repeat from *, end k2.

Rows 2 and 4: Purl.

Row 3: K2, *yo, k2tog; * repeat from *, end k1.

Repeat Rows 1-4 for eyelet patt.

 

COWL

First strip:

With C, CO 21 sts. Work in St st until piece measures 26" from beg.

BO all sts, leaving a 9" tail for sewing.

Second strip:

With A, CO 21 sts. Work in seed st until piece measures 26" from beg.

BO all sts, leaving a 9" tail for sewing.

Third strip:

With B, CO 21 sts.  Work in eyelet patt until piece measures 26" from beg.

BO all sts, leaving a 9" tail for sewing.

 

FINISHING

Tack the three strips together at one end. Braid until tight as pictured, then sew together .

Using yarn needle, weave in ends.
