FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Purse measures approximately 4 1/2"/11.5cm wide and 4 3/4"/12cm high


MATERIALS
Caron International's Simply Soft Party (99% acrylic, 1% polyester; 3oz/85g, 171yds/156m): 4 oz (A), 4 oz (B)

Shown in: #0003 Spring Sparkle (A); #0002 Fuchsia Sparkle (B)

One size US H-8 (5mm) crochet hook, or size to obtain gauge

Two 5/8” beads or buttons for flower centers

Circular elastic hair band—18"/45.5cm (or length of elastic tied in an 18"/45.5cm circle)

Yarn needle

 

GAUGE

Gauge is not critical for this project

STITCHES USED

Chain (ch), double crochet (dc), single crochet (sc), slip stitch (sl st)

 

PURSE

Front

With A, ch 14 loosely.

Row 1 (RS): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each remaining ch across, turn—13 sc.

Rows 3–14: Ch 1, working in front loops only, sc in each sc across, turn.

Rows 15 and 16: Ch 1, [sk next sc, sc in next sc, working over sc just made, sc in skipped sc] 6 times, sc in last sc, turn.

Fasten off.

Back

Make same as front, but do not fasten off.

Joining Row: Hold front and back with wrong sides together; working through both thicknesses, work sc evenly spaced down side edge, across lower edge, and up other side edge to join front to back; leave top edge open. Do not fasten off.

Strap

Row 1: Ch 80, sl st in seam at top of opposite side of purse, sc in top edge of purse, turn.

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each ch across strap, sc in top edge of purse.

Fasten off.

Flower

With B, ch 3; join with sl st in first ch to form a ring.

Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout), work 13 more dc in ring; join with sl st in top of beginning ch—14 dc.

Round 2: Ch 3, dc in next dc, *ch 2, dc in next 2 dc; repeat from * around, ch 2; join with sl st in top of beginning ch—7 ch-2 sps. Fasten off.

 

FINISHING

Sew button or beads to center of flower. Sew flower to center, front of purse. Using yarn needle, weave in all ends.

 

NECKLACE

Round 1: Work sc over hair band, as follows:

Place a slip knot on the hook. *Insert hook, from front to back, into center of hair band. Take yarn over top of hair band to back, and over the hook. Draw loop to front, bring yarn back over top of hair band, yarn over and draw through both loops on hook (1 sc worked over hair band completed); repeat from * until hair band is completely covered. Push stitches together as you work, to ensure complete coverage; join with sl st in first sc.

Round 2: Ch 2, dc in each sc around; join with sl st in top of beginning ch.

Fasten off.

Flower

Work same as flower for purse.

 

FINISHING

Sew button or bead(s) to center of flower. Sew flower to necklace. Using yarn needle, weave in all ends.
