MATERIALS
Caron International's Simply Soft
 
(100% acrylic, 6 oz/170g; 315 yds/288 m): #9608 Blue Mint (A), 2 skeins

Caron International's Simply Soft Tweed

(98% acrylic, 2% rayon; 3 oz/85 g; 150 yds/137 m): #0008 Grape (B), 2 skeins

#0005 Lime (C), 2 skeins

One size US 9 (5.5 mm) circular needle, 26”/66 cm long or size to obtain gauge

Yarn needle

GAUGE

In Slip stitch pattern, 23 1/2 sts and 35 rows = 4”/10cm.

 

STITCHES USED

Garter stitch (garter st)

Slip stitch pattern (Slip st)

Picot stitch (Picot st)

Notes: At beginning of each right side row, knit all colors together on the first stitch. This will bring the colors neatly up the edge and help prevent pulling the colors too tightly at the beginning of their rows.

 

BLANKET

Using A, cast on 128 sts. Knit 2 rows for garter st.

Next row: Knit, inc 19 sts evenly spaced across row (approximately 1 st every 6 sts) -- 147 sts.

Next row: Using A, purl

Begin pattern:

Row 1: Using B, k3, *slip 1, k3; repeat from * to end.

Row 2: Using B, k3, *bring yarn forward, slip 1, k3; repeat from * to end.

Row 3: Using A, k1, *slip 1, k3; repeat from * across to last 2 sts, slip 1, k1.

Row 4: Using A, p1, *slip 1, p3; repeat from * across to last 2 sts, slip 1, p1.

Row 5: Using C, repeat Row 1.

Row 6: Using C, repeat Row 2.

Row 7: Using A, repeat Row 3.

Row 8: Using A, repeat Row 4.

Repeat  Rows 1-8 for Slip st pattern, 31 more times.

Repeat Rows 1 and 2 once more.

Afghan will measure approx 29 1/2”.

Note: Remainder of afghan will be worked with Color A only.

Next row: Knit.

Next row: Knit, dec 19 sts evenly spaced across row as follows: K5,*k2tog, k6, k2tog, k5; repeat from * to last 7 sts, k2tog, k5 -- 128 sts.

Knit 3 more rows.

Bind off in picot edge bind off as follows:

Picot Edge Bind Off:

Bind off 2 sts, *place st on right-hand needle, back onto left-hand needle; cast on 2 sts, then using the “knit on” method; bind off 4 sts; repeat from * to end. Fasten off.  

On opposite end of afghan:

Using A, PU 128 sts along edge (1 st in each end st).

Knit 1 row.

Bind off sts in picot edge as described above for other end of afghan.

Side Edges:

With RS facing and  A, PU 138 sts along side edge (4 sts along Garter st border, then 1 st every other row -- once in each color along edge).

Knit 1 row.

Bind off in picot edge as described above.

At end of row, fourth bind off st will pull through final loop.

Secure end of yarn in space before first picot of end border to form a continuous edge of picot sts.

Repeat on other side of afghan.

 

FINISHING

Using yarn needle, weave in ends.
