One pair size US 8 (5mm) needles or size needed to obtain gauge
Additional Materials:
Yarn needle
6 buttons—1/4"/6mm
sewing needle and matching thread
GAUGE:
In Stockinette stitch, 18 sts and 24 rows = 4”/10cm.
COWL
With A, CO 85 sts.
Hem Border
Rows 1–3: Beg on RS, work in St st for 3 rows.
Row 4 (WS): Knit for fold line.
Rows 5–8: Work in St st for 4 rows.
Main Body (Sl st patt)
Row 1 (RS): *Sl 1 A st wyib, with B, k3; repeat from * to last st, sl 1 A st wyib.
Row 2: *Sl 1 A st wyif, with B, p3; repeat from * to last st, sl 1 A st wyif.
Rows 3 and 4: With A, knit.
Rows 5–36: Repeat last 4 rows 8 more times.
Rows 37 and 38: Repeat Rows 1 and 2.
Hem Border
Repeat Rows 1–8 of Hem Border. BO.
FINISHING
Fold top edge along fold line to create hem and sew in place. Repeat for lower edge.
RIbbed Band
With RS facing and A, pick up and k26 sts across one short edge.
Row 1 (WS): P2, *k2, p2; repeat from * to end of row.
Row 2: K the knit sts, p the purl sts to end of row.
Rows 3–7: Repeat Row 2 five more times.
Buttonhole Row (RS): *K2, yo, k2tog; repeat from * to last 2 sts, k2.
Repeat Rows 1–6. BO in rib patt.
Repeat Ribbed Band on other short edge omitting buttonholes. Sew buttons opposite buttonholes. Using yarn needle, weave in ends. Block if necessary.
