Stripe Pattern
Working in Slip Stitch Pattern, *work 2 rows B, 2 rows C, then 2 rows A; rep from * for Stripe Pattern.

Slip Stitch Pattern (multiple of 4 sts + 3)
Note: Slip all sts purlwise.
Row 1 (RS): K3, *sl 1 wyib, k3; rep from * to end.
Row 2: K3, *sl 1 wyif, k3; rep from * to end.
Row 3: K1, *sl 1 wyib, k3; rep from * to last 2 sts, sl 1 wyib, k1.
Row 4: K1, *sl 1 wyif, k3; rep from * to last 2 sts, sl 1 wyif, k1.

BODY

With smaller needle and A, CO 87 (91, 95, 99) sts. Work in 3x1 Rib for 1 (1 1/2, 1 1/2, 1 1/2)", ending with a WS row.

Est Patt (RS): Change to larger needles. Work Stripe Pattern until piece measures 8 (8 1/2, 8 1/2, 8 1/2)" from beg, ending with a WS row.

Divide for Fronts and Back (RS): Work 18 (19, 21, 22) sts as est, sl these sts to a holder for Right Front; BO next 4 sts for armhole, work 43 (45, 45, 47) sts (including st on Right needle rem after BO), sl these sts to a holder for Back; BO next 4 sts for armhole, work to end.

LEFT FRONT

Shape Armhole (WS): Cont in patt as est, dec 1 st at armhole edge every WS row 8 times–10 (11, 13, 14) sts. Work even until armhole measures 2 1/2" above dividing row, ending with a RS row.

Shape Neck (WS): Cont in patt as est, BO 5 (6, 7, 8) sts, work to end–5 (5, 6, 6) sts. Work even until armhole measures 5 (5, 5 1/2, 5 1/2)" above dividing row, ending with a RS row. BO all sts.

BACK

Shape Armhole (WS): With WS facing, return to sts on holder for Back, join yarn. Cont in patt as est, dec 1 st each side every WS row 6 (6, 5, 6) times–31 (33, 35, 35) sts. Work even until armhole measures 4 1/2 (4 1/2, 5, 5)" from dividing row, ending with a WS row.

Shape Neck (RS): Cont in patt as est, work 5 (5, 6, 6) sts, sl these sts to a holder for Right Back, BO next 21 (23, 23, 23) sts for neck, work to end.

Left Back (WS): Working on Left Back sts only, work even until piece measures same as Left Front to shoulder, ending with a RS row. BO all sts.

Right Back (WS): With WS facing, return to sts on holder for Right Back, join yarn. Cont in patt as est, work even until piece measures same as Left Back to shoulder, ending with a WS row. BO all sts.

RIGHT FRONT

Shape Armhole (WS): With WS facing, return to sts on holder for Right Front, join yarn. Cont in patt as est, dec 1 st at armhole edge every WS row 8 times–10 (11, 13, 14) sts. Work even until armhole measures 2 1/2" above dividing row, ending with a WS row.

Shape Neck (RS): Cont in patt as est, BO 5 (6, 7, 8) sts, work to end–5 (5, 6, 6) sts. Work even until armhole measures same as Left Back to shoulder, ending with a WS row. BO all sts.

FINISHING

Block pieces to measurements. Sew shoulder seams.

Button Band

With RS facing, using smaller needle and A, pick up and knit 3 sts for every 4 rows along Left Front, ending with an even number of sts. Work in Seed st for 5 rows. BO all sts in patt.

Buttonhole Band

Work as for Button Band for 2 rows, ending with a RS row. With WS facing, place markers for 7 buttonholes, the first approx 1/2" below neck edge, the last approx 3/4" above lower edge, and the rem 5 evenly spaced between. Markers should be placed after a purl st.

Buttonhole Row (WS): [Work to marker, sl marker, yo, k2tog] 7 times, work to end.

Complete as for Button Band.

Neckband

With RS facing, using smaller needle and A, pick up and knit sts around neck opening, including Bands, ending with an even number of sts. Work in 1x1 Rib for 1". BO all sts in patt.

Armhole Edging

With RS facing, using crochet hook and A, join yarn with sl st to bottom center of armhole, chain 1, single crochet around armhole opening, sl st to first single crochet, fasten off.

Using yarn needle, weave in ends. Sew on buttons.
