One circular (circ) needle size U.S. 8 (5mm), 16"/40cm long, or size to obtain gauge
One set of five size U.S. 8 (5mm) double-pointed needles (dpns)

Yarn needle

GAUGE
In Stripe Pattern, 18 sts and 24 Rnds = 4"/10cm

STITCHES USED

2x2 Rib (multiple of 4 sts)
All Rnds: *K2, p2; rep from * to end.

Stripe Pattern (multiple of 4 sts)
Rnds 1 and 2: With A, knit.
Rnds 3 and 4: With B, knit.
Rnds 5-8: Rep Rnds 1-4.
Rnd 9: *K2 with A, k2 with B; rep from * to end.
Rnd 10: *K2 with B, k2 with A; rep from * to end.
Rnds 11 and 12: Rep Rnds 9 and 10.
Rep Rnds 1-12 for Stripe Pattern.

BRIM
With circ needle and A, CO 84 sts.
Join to work in the rnd, taking care not to twist sts; place marker for beg of rnd.
Change to B.
Work in 2x2 Rib until piece measures 2" from beg.

BODY
Change to Stripe Pattern; work even for 36 rnds (3 vertical repeats of Stripe Pattern).

CROWN
Shape Crown
Note: Change to dpns when necessary for number of sts on needle.
Rnd 1: With A, knit.
Rnd 2: *K2tog; rep from * to end—42 sts remain.
Rnd 3: With B, knit.
Rnd 4: *K2tog; rep from * to end—21 sts remain.
Rnd 5: With A, knit.
Rnd 6: *K2tog; rep from * to last st, k1—11 sts remain.
Rnd 7: With B, knit.
Rnd 8 : *K2tog; rep from * to last st, k1—6 sts remain.
Break yarn, weave through remaining sts, cinch shut on WS.

FINISHING
Using yarn needle, weave in ends.
