IOne square measures about 5 1/2 x 5 1/2"/14 x 14cm.

STITCHES USED
FPdc: Front-post double crochet - Yarn over, insert hook from front to back and then to front again around post of stitch, yarn over and draw up loop, [yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook] twice.

NOTES
1. Afghan is made from 63 squares, worked in 8 different color sequences.
2. Squares are worked with RS facing at all times. Do not turn at the ends of rounds.

HELPFUL
To help keep squares "square", join in a different corner ch-3 sp each time you join a new color.

SQUARE 1(make 4)

With A, ch 5; join with sl st in first ch to form a ring.
Round 1(RS):Ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout), 2 dc in ring, ch 3, [3 dc in ring, ch 3] 3 times; join with sl st in first dc (top of beginning ch) - 12 dc and 4 ch-3 sps. Fasten off A.
Round 2:With RS facing, join B with sl st in any ch-3 sp, ch 3, (dc, ch 3, 2 dc ) in same ch-3 sp as join (corner made), [sk next dc, FPdc around next dc, sk next dc, (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in next ch-2 sp (corner made)] 3 times, sk next dc, FPdc around next dc, sk next dc; join with sl st in first dc - 4 corners and 1 FPdc between corners. Fasten off B.

FINISHING
Arrange motifs as shown in assembly diagram and sew together through outer loops.
Border
Round 1With WS facing, join J with sc in any sc on edge of afghan; sc in each sc around, working 3 sc in center sc of each outer 5-sc corner; join with sl st in first sc. Fasten off. Using yarn needle, weave in all ends. Block lightly, if desired.
