#0020 Chartreuse(ish) (A): 3 (3, 4) balls
#001 Black(ish) (B): 1 ball

One pair size U.S. 8 (5mm) straight needles or size to obtain gauge
One size U.S. 8 (5mm) circular needle, 16”/40.5cm long
GAUGE
In Stockinette stitch, 19 sts and 23 rows = 4”/10cm
STITCHES USED
1x1 ribbing (worked back and forth on odd number of sts):
Row 1 (RS): K1, *p1, k1; rep from * across.
Row 2: P1, *k1, p1; rep from * across.
Rep Rows 1-2 for 1x1 ribbing worked back and forth.
1x1 ribbing (worked in-the-round on even number of sts):
Rnd 1: *K1, p1; rep from * around.
Rep Rnd 1 for 1x1 ribbing worked in-the-round.
NOTE
Monster Eyes chart can be work intarsia style by working chart as indicated in pattern. Or the eyes can be embroidered on later using duplicate stitch. Outlines and mouth are embroidered last.
BACK
Using A and straight needles, CO 57 (61, 65) sts. Work back and forth in 1x1 ribbing for 1”, inc 1 st on last row--58 (62, 66) sts. Change to St st and. work until piece measures 11 ½ (13 ½, 15)” from beg. Leave sts on holder for shoulders and Back neck.
FRONT
Work same as Back until piece measures 5 ½ (7, 8)” from beg. Work Monster Eye chart if desired (or work later in duplicate stitch). Conti in St st until piece measures 9 ½ (11 ½, 13)” from beg, ending with a WS row.
Shape neck
Next row (RS): Work 23 (25, 26) sts, join 2nd ball of yarn, knit across center 12 (12, 14) sts and place them on a holder for Front neck, continue across rem 23 (25, 26) sts. Working both sides of neck at the same time with separate balls of yarn, BO 3 sts at neck edge once, then 2 (3, 3) sts once. Work even on rem 18 (19, 20) sts until piece measures same as Back to shoulder.
Join shoulders using 3-ndl BO. Leave rem 22 (24, 26) Back neck sts on holder.
Measure 7 (8 ½, 9 ½)” up from CO edge on Front and Back. Place markers at each edge for Sleeve placement.
SLEEVES
With RS facing and A, pick up and k42 (48, 54) sts between markers. Work in St st, dec 1 st at each edge every 6th row 7 (10, 12) times. Work even on rem 28 (28, 30) sts until Sleeve measures 10 (11, 12)” or desired length, dec 1 st on last row. Work back and forth in 1x1 ribbing for 1”. BO.
FINISHING
Sew side and Sleeve seams.
Neck edging
With RS facing, using circular needles and A, k22 (24, 26) Back neck sts. pick up and k approx 15 sts along neck edge, k12 (12, 14) center Front sts, pick up and k approx 15 sts along neck edge. Join and work around in 1x1 ribbing for 1”. BO.
