GAUGE
In Rib Pattern (slightly stretched), 18 sts and 20 rows = 4"/10cm.
STITCHES USED
K2, p2 Rib (multiple of 4 sts)
Round 1: *K2, p2; rep from * around.
Round 2: K the knit sts and p the purl sts, as they appear.
Rep Rnd 2 for K2, p2 Rib.
Rib Pattern (multiple of 4 sts)
Rounds 1 and 2: Work in K2, p2 Rib.
Round 3: *RT, p2; repeat from * around.
Round 4: Work in K2, p2 Rib.
Repeat Rounds 1–4 for Rib Pattern.
SPECIAL TERM
RT: Right Twist—K2tog but do not slip st off needle, insert right needle between these 2 sts and knit the first st again, slip both sts off needle.
BEANIE
Ribbing
With circular needle and 2 strands of A held tog, CO 76 (80) sts. Join, being careful not to twist sts. Place a marker (pm) for beginning of round.
Work in K2, p2 Rib until piece measures 2"/5cm from beginning.
Change to one strand each of A and B held tog.
Continue in K2, p2 Rib until piece measures 5 (5 1/2)"/12.5 (14cm) from beginning.
Begin Rib Pattern
Change to 2 strands of B held tog.
Rounds 1 and 2: Work in K2, p2 Rib.
Round 3: *RT, p2; repeat from * around.
Round 4: Work in K2, p2 Rib.
Rounds 5–8: Repeat Rounds 1–4.
Shape Crown
Note: Change to dpns when necessary.
Round 1:*K2tog, p2; repeat from * around—57 (60) sts.
Round 2: *K1, p2; repeat from * around.
Round 3: *K1, p2tog; repeat from * around—38 (40) sts.
Rounds 4 and 5: *K1, p1; repeat from * around.
Round 6: *K2tog; repeat from * around—19 (20) sts.
Round 7: *K2tog; repeat from * to last 1 (0) sts, k1 (0)—10 sts.
Cut yarn leaving a long tail. Thread tail through remaining sts. Pull tight and secure.
FINISHING
Using yarn needle, weave in ends.
