#0015 Red(ish) (B) and #0001 Black(ish) (C), small amount
One size G-6 (4mm) crochet hook or size to obtain gauge
Small piece of white felt

GAUGE
In hdc, 16 sts and 12 rows = 4”/10cm
STITCHES USED
chain (ch); half double crochet (hdc); single crochet (sc); slip stitch (sl st); spike stitch (sp st)
SPECIAL TECHNIQUES
Sp st (spike stitch): Insert hook in st that is 2 rows below and work 2 hdc in that st.
NOTES
Hat is worked in rounds. Place a stitch marker to indicate the beginning of the round and move marker up as work progresses.
HAT
Yeti Head:
Beginning at top with A, ch 3; join with sl st in first ch to form a ring.
Round 1: Ch 2 (counts as first hdc), work 7 hdc in center of ring; join with sl st in first ch—8 hdc.
Round 2: Work 2 hdc in each st around—16 hdc.
Round 3: *Work hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st; rep from * around—24 hdc.
Round 4: *Work hdc in next 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st; rep from * around—32 hdc.
Round 5: *Work hdc in next 3 sts, 2 hdc in next st; rep from * around—40 hdc.
Round 6: *Work hdc in next 4 sts, 2 hdc in next st; rep from * around—48 hdc.
Round 7: *Work hdc in next 5 sts, 2 hdc in next st; rep from * around—56 sts.
Rounds 8-17: Hdc in each st around.
Rounds 18–19: Sc in each st around.
Chain strap:
Note: Work back and forth in rows starting on front right side.
Row 1: Ch 2, hdc 1 in next 4 sts, turn—5 hdc.
Rows 2-20: Hdc in each of 5 hdc, turn.
Cut A, leaving a 12”/30.5cm tail. Make knot.
Yeti Mouth:
Row 1: Join B in next free st at edge of chin strap, sc in next 2 sts, Sp st in next st, *sk 1, Sp st in next; rep from * until there are 11 Sp sts, sc in each of next 2 sts, turn—11 Sp sts.
Note: Measurement from beginning to end of mouth is 7”/18 cm. Cut B, leaving a 6”/15cm tail. Make knot.
Using yarn needle and B, weave tails in to hide.
FINISHING
Using yarn needle and A, whip stitch the loose end of the chin strap to the other side of the mouth (left front). Weave in ends to hide.
Using yarn needle and C, embroider eyes and nostrils separately, making a knot when beginning and ending each detail. Note: Both nostrils can be made with the same piece of yarn. To reinforce and protect the wrong side from snagging, hand stitch a small piece of white felt over the nostrils on the inside of the hat.
